Community Investment And Impact Department

The community impact and investment team aligns community needs with expertise, resources and partners. During Covid 19, food security issues have become one of the most immediate concerns for our communities across Province of British Columbia. That’s why UWBC implemented Regional Community Food Hubs and other food security projects to address the overwhelming food insecurity needs of our most vulnerable populations across the province.

This position provides program, operations, communications and administrative support on food security initiative and projects. This position assists in the regional coordination, development, implementation and evaluation of program plans and plays a role in organizing logistics and maintaining resources. This position will provide leadership and will be supporting communication and liaising with other partners This position will assist the Manager and team in all aspects of the current programs as well as future funding and community engagement opportunities. Additionally, the incumbent in this position may travel to various communities to gather and deliver program information and respond to the needs of the various stakeholders and may be asked to be a public face of the program with limited stakeholders in the absence of the Manager.

Summary Of Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibility Area: Community Engagement & Development

  • Acts as a leader in food security community development according to the strategies and goals of the UWBC food security initiative
  • Facilitates and assists with administration of elements in food security programs and associated events
  • Liaising with UWBC staff and funded community partners and ensuring funding deliverables are achieved within the project timeframe.
  • Relationship building and collaboration with local stakeholders including Indigenous groups, post-secondary institutions, funders, local businesses and other food systems organizations.
  • Support specific regional community building activities and shared learning initiatives
  • Working in connection with other departments such as Marketing and Communication, Fundraising etc.
  • Travels within the Province of British Columbia to assist in a variety of tasks related to deliverables of the program, including the implementation of the programs project plans will be required on a limited basis

Key Responsibility Area: Data and Evaluation

  • Stewards all aspects of reporting and data entry, manages data collection and ensures reporting is done timely and adequately
  • Supports community partners through the reporting process and informs them on any reporting requirement
  • Responses to data inquiries from other departments, prepares data related reports

Key Responsibility Area: Strategic Initiatives

  • Working closely with the rest of UWBC Food Security Team on the project strategy, to develop regional food security solutions and Provincial food security network.
  • Actively participate in identifying, planning and executing future solutions to regional food security.
  • Reconciles program and identifies to the Manager potential risks and mitigation strategies.
  • Acts as the Manager’s delegate at meetings. Will prepare for and present at meetings accordingly.
  • Participates on Community Project Team(s).
  • Performs other duties related to the qualifications and requirements of the job.

Education

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited University or equivalent of community college diploma and years of experience in food security

Experience

  • 3 years' experience in food security with minimum of 1 year of experience working on provincial level

Skills

  • Knowledge and practice of community building
  • Knowledge and practice of food security
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a community setting with diverse populations, including community groups, government, professional staff and volunteers.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects and responsibilities concurrently
  • Able to motivate and lead a team of community organizations and be able to work as a highly proficient and effective, contributing team member; Ability to create and maintain good working relationships
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Must be able to relate to corporate and community leaders in a professional manner.
  • Ability to exercise a high level of tact and discretion in both internal and external interactions.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure be responsive and meet deadlines.
  • Superior Verbal and written communication skills; an effective listener and presenter
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and computer applications
  • Attention to detail; excellent organizational and time management skills.

Working Conditions

The incumbent must provide their own vehicle and possess a valid BC driver’s license or have alternative means for meeting the requirements of the position. Demands on work time will exist outside normal business hours.

This is a bargaining unit role with CUPE Local 1760. This position is at pay grade 36, which is $78,889.00 annually if you are within Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley region and $71,223.83 annually if you are outside Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley region.

Candidates must live within 60 KMs (commuting distance) from any of our offices as this position is currently a hybrid role and office attendance is required.
