Ontario Line South

Ferrovial Construction Canada Inc. and VINCI Construction Grands Projects are to design, build and finance the Ontario Line Southern Civil, Stations and Tunnel (South Civil) package.

Working together as Ontario Transit Group we are currently mobilizing our design and construction crews, with major works to commence in 2023. The South Civil contract is anticipated to be completed in 2030.

The project will strengthen Ontario’s economy by supporting an estimated 1,500 jobs at the peak of construction.

What is the project?

  • A six-kilometer tunnel and associated tunnelling works from Exhibition to Don Yard portal (west of the Don River)
  • Stations:
    • One above-ground station to be integrated with the existing GO Transit Exhibition Station
    • Two underground stations to be integrated with the existing TTC Osgoode and Queen subway stations
    • Four new underground stations (King/Bathurst, Queen/Spadina, Moss Park, Corktown)

Variation & Change Team

The Variation Team is part of the Contract Department. The Variation Team is responsible for managing the instruction of any Variation, Change or Claim with the Contractual Authority. The Team is therefore in intimate interfaces with all the Project department (technical, schedule, procurement, construction, legal, finance) in order to provide, in timely manner, comprehensive estimate for any of these events, while assessing any impacts.

The negotiation of any Variation ends up with the Confirmation or the Rejection and if needed, is then passed to the Operation.

The Variation Team is constituted of coordinators, estimators, engineers and schedulers, under the supervision of the Variation Manager. It is supported by different legal & claim consultants, upon request.

What you will undertake:

  • In charge of the Estimate & Proposal for some Variation Enquires
  • Analyses and interprets project plans, specifications, and other documents to identify impact of variations on project schedule, resources, and cost
  • Liaises with all Project departments which shall be involved in Variation & Change, propose the solutions and way-forwards to be developed as an answer to each Variation Enquiries
  • Coordinates the details required to complete the impact assessment step
  • Prepare submittal documents and participate to the review
  • Review and analyze change orders and contract modifications for potential impacts on the project scope, schedule, and budget
  • Collaborate with the project team to develop and maintain a comprehensive log of all variations, changes, and claims
  • Ensure that all variations are properly documented
  • Provide regular reports and updates to the Variation Manager and other project stakeholders on the status of all variations
  • Support the Variation Manager in the negotiation and resolution of variations, changes, and claims with the Contractual Authority


  • A Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field
  • 3-5 years of experience in one of the following areas:
    • contract and or variation/change management on large construction projects
    • small to medium-size bids ($1m-$10m)
    • construction experience as PM or Project / Site coordinator
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in parallel
  • Strong problem-solving, synthesis and critical thinking skills
  • The ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • A team player who can collaborate effectively with colleagues at all levels of the organization
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • An ability to interpret data and make decisions based on evidence/logic
  • Good time management and organization skills
  • Ownership, autonomy, commitment, and an ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to build strong working relationships both internally and with the client
  • Advanced level of computer literacy including MS Office, intermediate level on MS Project
