Through an array of co-curricular programming in the arts, dialogue and wellness, Hart House works with local and international partners to foster community and to create innovative learning opportunities for students. Hart House operates from a historic facility on the St. George campus, as well as a 150-acre farm in Caledon, Ontario, offering a wide range of services through a social enterprise model that generates revenue to support its student-focused programming on all three University of Toronto campuses.

Your Opportunity:

The Director of Finance reports to the CAO, Business and Ancillary Operations and takes a leadership role in developing short and long-term strategic and financial plans, provides financial guidance to senior management and oversees and is responsible for the financial portfolio of Hart House. Hart House is dependent on a business model that focuses on a strong revenue stream to support approximately 50% of its budget. The Director creates excellent standards of financial accountability, identifies systems, business processes and other opportunities to improve operational and administrative efficiencies and increase revenue for Hart House develops plans and oversees the implementation of these systems. The incumbent will be directly responsible for managing 5 unionized employees and will represent the House in dealings with other University departments/divisions and Central Financial Services in regard to University-wide financial practices, processes or policies and will lead Hart House in developing and supporting these practices, processes and policies.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
University degree and training in the area of financial and human resource management or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience. CA, CMA, CGA, CPA, or a valid certified accounting designation required. Project Management certification an asset.

Experience:

A minimum of five (5) years administrative experience at the supervisory/management level. Additionally:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in financial and human resource management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in the University’s financial and administrative policies.
  • Proven leadership skills, experience in team building, leading change and adapting to new technologies.
  • Demonstrated analytical ability in budget modeling and forecasting.
  • Project management.

Skills:

  • Strong computer skills including FIS, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent presentation skills (technical skills, communication skills).
  • Ability to work effectively in, and to build, teams; demonstrated experience managing and coaching staff.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation skills, negotiating and mediating skills.
  • Superior interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively in a consultative team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise tact, diplomacy and discretion at all times and keep confidential highly sensitive information; highly developed and effective problem-solving skills and ability to exercise sound judgment.
  • Highly developed creativity and initiative to deal with unique and challenging financial and budgetary issues.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity and diversity.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to adult education philosophy.
  • Accountable for behaving in a manner that demonstrates personal commitment to responsiveness, innovation, teamwork and integrity.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities within strict timeline constraints; proven ability to respond to frequently changing priorities; demonstrated time management and organizational skills.

Other:

  • Practical knowledge in all phases of accountancy, human resource management and other business practices.

Schedule: Full-Time. Monday to Friday from 8:45 AM to 5:00 PM. Occasional overtime during peak periods. Some requirement to be on-call outside regular business hours (evenings/weekends).
Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone: PM 4 -- Hiring Zone: $104,818 - $122,290 -- Broadband Salary Range: $104,818 - $174,698
