Sessional Instructional Assistant

Course number and title: HMB406H1S – Health Care Ethics

Course description: Since research involving human subjects lays the foundation for innovation in modern health care, this course examines health care ethics along a continuum from bench to bedside. Ethical issues are discussed in the context of specific cases involving human research, as well as contemporary clinical practice.

Estimated course enrolment: 45 students

Hours of Work: 60 (to be confirmed)

Class schedule: Lectures on Mondays 9:00 am - 11:00 am (in-person)

Sessional dates of appointment: January 1, 2025 - April 30, 2025

Salary: $52.26 per hour plus of vacation pay

Minimum qualifications: Candidates should have a completed M.Sc. degree in a related field and basic knowledge of bioethics and ethical theory. Previous Teaching Assistant experience in a bioethics course preferred.

Description of duties:

  • Assist in preparation of course syllabus and course marking scheme;
  • Assist in teaching weekly lectures and tutorials;
  • Assist in marking assignments and exams;
  • Providing office hours for academic counselling of students;
  • Assist in setting and marking assignments/exams
  • Assist in course administration in accordance with University regulations as described in the Faculty of Arts & Science Academic Handbook for Instructors.
