The Ministry of Advanced Education is responsible for an adult learning system that provides accessible, affordable, and high-quality education for Albertans. Role Responsibilities

The Ministry of Advanced Education has an exciting opportunity and is looking for a Senior Program Coordinator to join our team!

Reporting to the Manager, Program Implementation, this position leads multiple large and complex program development and implementation projects, which are focused on supporting Alberta’s economic growth and future skill development needs. You will sustain a network and effective working relationships with external stakeholder groups, program areas, and other divisions and departments to foster collaboration and support information sharing, integrated decision-making, and to facilitate transitions to new or revised program operations.

In your role as a Senior Program Coordinator, you will be responsible to:

  • Play a lead role in delivery of Advanced Education’s Industry Pathways initiative, which involves supporting industry stakeholders through the process of developing and implementing new apprenticeship education programs, industry training programs, and designated trades in Alberta.
  • Lead cross-functional project teams to discuss issues, gain consensus and maintain momentum, including resolving conflict, addressing tensions, and building and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage and facilitate large and often complex projects, including grants, through all phases (e.g., idea generation, issues identification, strategic alignment, research, analysis, evaluation, and stakeholder engagement).
  • Draft project management documents to record, communicate activities and progress, and provide coaching to colleagues in the development of their project management documents.
  • Undertake day-to-day tasks associated with program operations, including workflow, administration, presenting, and reporting.
  • Develop briefing materials, presentations, speeches, and correspondence to ensure branch, division and department leadership have appropriate input for decision-making.
  • Provide input, analysis, and recommendations to the Manager and Director related to the ongoing enhancement of the Division's policies and operational programs.
  • Lead the design and redesign of programs and services through collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Serve as Acting Manager as needed.

  • Agility to adapt quickly to changing direction and priorities across multiple subject matters simultaneously.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • University graduation in a related field (such as Business, Political Science, Arts, Education, etc.) plus 4 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.


Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

  • Knowledge and experience working with programs and services focused on achieving labour market outcomes.

  • Knowledge of government contract and grant management policies and procedures.
  • Well-developed critical thinking and analytical skills to actively assess challenges, opportunities, impacts, and risks presented in projects.
  • Knowledge of Government and department strategic and policy directions as they relate to the division programs and services.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, making appropriate decisions and taking action where required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively build relationships, consult and work with program areas on a variety of projects, and to provide advice to business units on program development and implementation.
  • Strong ability to develop clear/concise written reports, briefings, letters, executive summaries, action requests, presentation, etc.
  • Organization and prioritization skills to balance multiple ongoing projects at one time and able to meet tight timelines.

Note: For professional work related to Communications (e.g. Public Affairs Officer), a directly related diploma is considered equivalent to university graduation in a related field.
