Raise is hiring a Distribution Project Coordination Engineer - Distribution Operations Planning for Our Client one of the largest electrical energy suppliers in Canada. This position is a six (6) month contract located in Abbotsford, BC. We are actively seeking talented professionals like you to drive these crucial initiatives forward.

Description

The Engineer in this role will work on all aspects of Distribution substation high voltage disconnect to transformer low voltage breaker projects and all projects (over head and underground) outside distribution substation.

Goal

  • Provide stability for managing Distribution Projects. High side disconnect of the substation distribution transformer is boundary between Grid and Distribution.
  • Coordination between various internal groups for distribution substation high voltage disconnect to transformer low voltage breaker projects
  • Coordination between various internal groups for transmission system projects which impacts distribution side of business or customer load
  • Setting best project management and workflow processes practices in alignment with PPM workflow
  • Prepare, maintain and revise process flow documentation on project life cycle process at operations with hand off points.

Accountabilities

  • Take inventory on # of distribution projects (distribution substation + distribution outside fence) operations is currently participating with details: Current project status, constructability status, what input has been provided, Status on operational requirements.
  • Prepare database and dashboard of each projects coming to operations.
  • Store the database on projects sharepoint
  • Develop operations Distribution projects check list
  • Utilize common mailbox for data repository and queries on distribution projects
  • Present and communicate the process with all stakeholders
  • Coordinator the project requirements between engineering team and outage schedulers.
  • Emergency operations support during forced outage events as well as storm, wild fire and other weather related events
  • Take lead on the projects assigned to Distribution based on weekly operations triage/ task force management team meeting.
  • Participate in (substation as well as outside substation fence) project meetings to provide operational input
  • Operations representation to other stakeholders on long term distribution projects outside 6 months. At a design, initial project stage, co-ordinate with Distribution Operations Planning group for PA requirements, scheduling requirements, outage staging plan.
  • Operations representation to other stakeholders on within 6 months. At an execution, construction, implementation/ near implementation project stage coordinate with Distribution Operations Planning group for final PA quality control, outage staging plan preparation, confirming outage details and requirements. Once everything is ready handover to Distribution schedulers with details and explanation.
  • Other administrative tasks as identified.
  • Provide timely Distribution-related Engineering support to System Control Centre Managers, Control Room Operators and Outage Schedulers.
  • Collaborate with the Day Shift Manager, Load Operators, and other support groups to sustain and or enhance tools/processes used by the Control Room, including EMS screens, POCC, field SCADA device operations, PA process, and customer operations.
  • Analyze and perform load flows for various distribution system issues as they arise.
  • Propose possible operational and contingency solutions to support day to day operations and outage scheduling.
  • Support Load Operator Seminars by providing distribution system related information and training.
  • Create, manage and maintain Distribution Operating Orders.
  • Collaborate with Distribution Planning and Distribution Engineering to provide operations input and to operationalize System Improvement projects.
  • Constantly upgrade technical knowledge to keep up with most recent advancements in the relevant engineering field. This includes but is not limited to Energy/Distribution Management System (EMS/DMS) application related knowledge, i.e. Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Network applications for real-time power system control, Distribution Analysis and Design (DAD), and Operator interface screens.
  • Establish strong relationship with control room personnel and understand Power System Safety Procedures (PSSP).
  • Assist in providing overall distribution expertise to Grid Operations

Required

  • 4 years of in a relevant engineering field with experience with Overhead - and underground electric utility distribution systems operating at voltages at or below 35kV.
  • Experience and understanding of distribution and substation power system operations would be an asset for this role
  • Previous work experience in control room and engineer planning (would be a nice to have for this role)
  • Proven track record of successful completion of projects
  • Distribution Design Experience (would be a nice to have for this role)
  • Experience with working with GIS systems (would be a nice to have for this role)
  • Demonstrated abilities to facilitate meetings and discussions with diverse groups often with conflicting needs
  • Strong communication skills with listening, presentation, negotiation, influencing, conflict resolution abilities. Strong writing skills are required.
  • Willingness and eagerness to learn
  • Education and additional qualifications
    • Degree in Electrical Engineering recognized by universities in Canada
    • P.Eng and will be required to Provide Proof of Permit to Practice, registered with EGBC when hired
    • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification,
    • Good organizational skills with attention to details
Additional Information

  • Location: Abbotsford (The in-office days will be based on manager's discretion)
  • Every contractor must supply their own Windows 10 or 11 Laptop computer for the duration of the assignment.
  • Every contractor must supply their own “Smart Phone”. This is needed to gain access to the Organizations network.
