ROLE PURPOSE

The Junior Financial Analyst will ensure that Connective Support Society has financial information that is timely, accurate, and can be fully relied upon to support the needs of operational management and strategic planning of the agency.

REPORTING AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

  • Reports and is accountable to the Senior Financial Analyst
  • Participates as a member of the Connective support team
  • Liases with the staff of Connective as necessary

HOURS (40 HOURS PER WEEK)

Monday to Friday, 0830 to 1630

Key Accountabilities

Financial Reporting

  • Prepares month end and year end working paper reconciliations
  • Prepares month end and year end adjusting journal entries
  • Reconciles bank statements
  • Drafts financial statements for internal review
  • Reviews financial statements with program managers
  • Conducts financial performance analysis
  • Prepares financial reports for funders as required
  • Ensures regulatory compliance in relation to financial reporting

Other Duties

  • Assists with month end and year end processes
  • Assists with year end audit procedures
  • Assists with the development of the annual budget
  • Assists in the preparation of funding applications
  • Provides support to the payroll, administrative, and program teams
  • Assist in implementation of finance policies and procedures
  • Assists in monitoring the financial health of the organization
  • Assists in the training and development of the junior finance team members
  • Ad hoc projects and other duties as assigned
  • Ensures grant contract and funding compliance
  • Leads initiatives for continuous quality improvement in financial processes

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Remote work, infrequently attending in person to Vancouver or Fraser Valley when necessary
  • Function independently, while remaining a crucial member of the support team
  • Adhere to Connective policies and procedures
  • Be available to work flexible hours as needed. May include some evenings/weekends, as determined by the regional office needs and schedules

Experience And Skills

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with a proven ability to work within a fast-paced, growth-focused environment. The ideal candidate has:

  • Successful completion of a university degree or diploma in accounting
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or working towards it is an asset
  • High proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite, specially Excel
  • Ability to organize and manage time efficiently
  • Five years of hands-on progressive experience in full cycle accounting
  • Familiarity with accounting standards for not-for-profit organizations, internal controls, and financial reporting
  • Strong familiarity with accounting systems with preference being given to candidates with direct experience using QuickBooks Enterprise
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to organize and manage time efficiently
  • Strong communication skills (listening, verbal and written)
  • Preference for candidates with knowledge of non-profit work environments, especially the Criminal Justice System and Developmental Disabilities.

Requirements

  • Ability to successfully complete a Vulnerable Persons Criminal Records Check
  • Ability to successfully pass a reference check

Compensation

Annual Salary will start at $61,600 to $77,000 based on experience and qualifications. This role will also be eligible for Connective’s comprehensive Management Benefits Package.

Important: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada, observe their weekly hours limit if under a temporary or study visa, and provide proof of eligibility if selected for the role.
