Position Summary

Support Staff Full-time Replacement Position

(First consideration for Support Staff and Academic positions will be given to internal applicants in accordance with the respective Collective Agreements.)

The successful candidate will assist faculty by providing input around instructional plans for practical skills based on established learning objectives. The successful candidate demonstrates skills to students and provides remedial assistance for those students who require further assistance in mastering the practical skills.

Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and meet the needs of the department through an on-site work arrangement at the Reuter campus (25 Reuter Dr.) in Cambridge. This is a “less than 12 months” position with an expected annual layoff of one month.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrating the safe use of the equipment and practical skills to students
• Providing remedial instruction to students requiring further assistance to master required practical skills
• Setting up, operating, and maintaining a variety of machines/equipment
• Evaluating equipment and supplies prior to ordering
• Preparing purchase requisitions for student’s supplies and equipment
• Maintaining an inventory of supplies and operating equipment necessary for the program
• Liaising with suppliers and LDC’s to procure equipment and donations of equipment
• Making minor repairs to equipment or providing direction/information to outside contractors when repairs to shop/equipment are required
• Providing input to faculty regarding instruction plans around practical skills based on the established learning outcomes
  
  

Qualifications

• Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic (313A) Certificate of Qualification is required
• Gas Technician 2 (G2) license is required, Gas Technician 1 (G1) license considered an asset
• Minimum of five years of relevant, practical experience is required
• Must be flexible and organized
• Solid computer literacy skills
• High degree of independent judgment, technical specialization, and experience
• Must possess good human relations skills including strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Leadership and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work well as part of a team
• Must be willing to upgrade his/her ability by taking courses, attending seminars, etc. to remain current in the field
