Overview:

The New Ventures Business Unit (New Ventures) team is expanding, offering a unique opportunity to be part of a highly entrepreneurial team focused on exploring and developing innovative business ventures for Pembina Pipeline Corporation (Pembina). We are seeking a highly motivated Analyst to join our team.

New Ventures’ mandate is to develop and invest in projects that position our business, customers and products for long-term resiliency and growth. We leverage Pembina’s deep technical and commercial expertise, expansive infrastructure network and existing product mix to develop business opportunities that:

  • Create, transport or midstream new energies and energy transition infrastructure;
  • Enhance the value of our existing core infrastructure and portfolio of products; and
  • Access new markets.

Responsibilities may include but not limited to:

The primary responsibilities of the Analyst will be to support New Ventures through the life cycle of ideation, evaluation and development of business opportunities. Deliverables and accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Market Research and Education: Conduct, synthesize and present in-depth market research and educational primers, which include identifying emerging trends/technologies, reviewing relevant government policy and regulations, conducting competitive analyses and assessing market viability;
  • Financial Modeling: Develop financial models to evaluate the economic feasibility of new projects, including revenue projections, cost analysis, tax and return on investment calculations;
  • Business Case Development: Prepare comprehensive business cases for potential projects, summarizing strategic fit, market analysis, financial projects and risk assessment;
  • Investment Evaluation: Analyze investment proposals and support recommendations to senior management based on strategic fit, financial criterial and risk assessment;
  • Due Diligence: Conduct and support thorough due diligence on potential investment and project opportunities, including technical, financial and commercial assessments;
  • Partner Management: Build and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external partners and stakeholders;
  • Project Management Support: Assist in the management of ongoing projects, ensuring they are executed on time and within budget;
  • Team Support: Support New Ventures’ in developing strategy, budgeting/forecasting, senior management / board reporting when and where applicable; and
  • Participate and support an inclusive and diverse workplace.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in one of the following areas is preferred: Economics, Business Administration focused on Finance or Accounting (or a related field):
  • Possess or working towards advanced education is preferred but not required (CFA, CPA, CBV);
  • 2 - 5 years’ work experience, preferably with experience in one or more of the following areas: strategic planning, financial evaluation, market research, business development and/or technology development;
  • Demonstrated interest in low-carbon industries, markets, products, regulation (carbon, hydrogen, renewable power, renewable fuels and gasses, etc.);
  • A general understanding of the energy industry (upstream, midstream, downstream) and/or knowledge in either of the following areas is viewed as highly desirable:
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Sound ability to articulate results and findings;
  • Proven financial modeling capabilities and best practices;
  • Effective communicator (strong written and verbal skills); and
  • Highly capable with MS Excel, PowerPoint and Word.

The successful candidate must be legally able to work in the country of the position. Final candidate will be required to undergo Pre-Employment Background Checks including a Criminal Record Check.
