As a part-time Professor, you will develop and deliver curriculum using various engaging and innovative methods, playing a pivotal role in enhancing academic excellence through sound, teaching practice.

The School Of Trades & Apprenticeship Is Currently Seeking Qualified Professionals To Join The Power Engineering Technology Program To Teach The Following Courses Part-time From January 2025 To April 2025

  • Industrial legislation
  • Codes
  • Maintenance
  • Administration
  • Safety related to boilers and legislation
  • American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) codes pertaining to the design and operation of boilers and related equipment, as regulated by the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA)

Part-time Professors typically teach 1-2 courses, with each course requiring approximately 3-6 hours per week in the classroom over a 14-week term. Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus as required. Employment will commence in January 2025, with teaching conducted in person at the Doon Campus, located at 299 Doon Valley Drive, Kitchener, ON N2G 4M4, between 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m

Responsibilities

  • Ensure program and course curriculum are current, relevant, and reflective of best practices in the field
  • Design appropriate strategies and tools for facilitating and evaluating student progress and achievement
  • Carry out regularly scheduled instruction according to the format prescribed for the course, including online, classroom, and computer-assisted lab lessons
  • Ensure student awareness of course objectives, instructional approach, and evaluation systems
  • Evaluate student progress/achievement, assuming responsibility for the overall assessment of student work within the assigned course, and maintain records as required
  • Support students in the use of eConestoga, the learning management system (D2L), as well as maintain course materials within this system
  • Create and maintain a positive learning environment which supports the diversity of students’ cultures, educational backgrounds, and learning styles
  • Work in a collaborative, collegial manner both within the department and across the college

Qualifications

  • Third Class Power Engineer certification or higher is required
  • Five years of industry experience related to power engineering and plant operations
  • Highly knowledgeable in plant administration in accordance with laws, policies, procedures, and industry standards
  • Extensive knowledge of steam generation and distribution, prime movers, electrical generation, plant and environmental controls, and related subjects is required
  • Adult or post-secondary level teaching experience is an asset
  • Experience with curriculum development is an asset
  • Experience with computer systems (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite) and educational technologies (e.g., D2L) is preferred
  • Demonstrated exceptional presentation, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of an academic team
  • Demonstrated ability to relate to learners and provide a positive learning environment to students working at different skill levels, including international students and students requiring accommodation, is an asset
  • Strong commitment to academic excellence, student success, and ability to support Conestoga’s continuous quality improvement initiatives
  • Strong relationships with industry contacts and network connections are considered an asset
