Overview:

Pembina’s Gas Services Business Unit (GBU) has a new and exciting career opportunity for a Director, Operations located in the Grand Prairie or Calgary, AB office. Reporting to the General Manager, Gas Services, the Director, Operations will be responsible for leading the safe, reliable, efficient and cost-effective operation and maintenance of the existing and new Business Unit assets, consistent with Pembina’s policies, processes and procedures. The Director will be responsible for managing a large portfolio of mixed sweet and sour assets spread across Northwest Alberta and Northeast B.C with an annual OPEX spend of ~$200 million. Reporting into the Director are 3 – 4 Managers stationed in our Grande Prairie and Whitecourt offices.

The Gas Services Business Unit provides gas gathering, compression, shallow cut processing and both sweet and sour deep cut processing services for its customers, primarily on a fee-for-service basis under long-term contracts.

Responsibilities may include but not limited to:

  • Demonstrates strong safety leadership and actively leads Pembina’s safety culture of “Zero by Choice” and the “Life Saving Rules”;
  • Oversees the day-to-day operations ensuring that all activities are carried out in accordance with company policies and standards;
  • Provides leadership to a large operating and diverse organization to deliver Company’s Safety, Health and Environment objectives, customer needs, regulatory requirements and overall business objectives;
  • Drives operational excellence and sharing of best practices within the team and across other business units;
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with customers, suppliers, and other stakeholders to promote business growth and success;
  • Demonstrates broad skills in Operations and Maintenance functions complemented by knowledge of technologies and engineering practices appropriate to the job position;
  • Responsible for ensuring prudent industry practices, government regulations, company safety & environmental policies and sound business judgement are deployed to achieve production targets, cost performance objectives, and profitability expectations;
  • Accountable for the continuous improvement in the efficiency of the operations and maintenance teams and Business Unit asset performance including cost savings initiatives, reliability programs, etc.;
  • Identifies and mitigates risks that may impact the company's operations and implement appropriate measures to address them;
  • Ensures all joint ventures are managed according to the agreements and in the best interests of Pembina in addition to acting as an interface for Pembina with joint ventures;
  • Role will require frequent travel to field offices and gas plants in Alberta and British Columbia to drive safety culture improvements, support field leadership and frontline staff, and enhance field employee engagement; and
  • Participate and support an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace.

Qualifications:

  • Applicants under consideration will have more than 15 years’ experience in an energy infrastructure environment combined with more than 10 years’ experience in leading and mentoring large, diverse teams made up of 150 or more staff members;
  • Prior experience in managerial roles overseeing operational teams, with a proven track record of managing large-scale projects and budgets;
  • Proven experience in motivating and developing teams;
  • Deep understanding of gas processing operations in the midstream infrastructure business; general knowledge of sour gas operations is an added advantage;
  • Strong knowledge of industry regulations, safety protocols, and environmental standards;
  • Ability to develop long-term operational strategies and align them with business objectives;
  • Ability to resolve complex operational challenges, often in a fast-paced and dynamic environment;
  • Able to foster positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Experience in identifying risks and implementing mitigation strategies, especially in safety-sensitive operations;
  • Proficiency in managing budgets, cost control, and maximizing operational efficiency;
  • Strong leadership skills to manage teams, communicate with stakeholders, and foster collaboration; and
  • Familiarity with software and technologies used in oil and gas operations, such as SAP, and SCADA systems.

This position is considered “Safety Sensitive” and so will require Pre-Employment Drug & Alcohol Testing which includes testing for marijuana metabolites. You may also be required to provide a Driver’s Abstract.

Pembina’s Flexible Work Standard provides the option for eligible employees to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays.

The successful candidate must be legally able to work in the country of the position. Final candidate will be required to undergo Pre-Employment Background Checks including a Criminal Record Check.
