Role Responsibilities
The Environmental Educator position, reporting to the Bow Habitat Station (BHS) Operations Coordinator, is a client-focused role dedicated to engaging visitors of all ages and abilities. This position is responsible for promoting and delivering BHS programs and services, along with priority environmental and protected areas (EPA) education messages.
Key Responsibilities Include
As an Environmental Educator, you will lead the delivery of education programs and activities by providing professional, engaging and accurate information. Through these services, you will actively support BHS in fostering community and lifelong connections with Alberta’s environment.

- Delivering engaging indoor and outdoor environmental education programs and activities to schools, groups, and public of all ages and abilities..
- Managing and maintaining inventory of educational resources.
- Collecting visitor feedback and data.
- Supporting with the delivery of outreach events and activities.
As an Environmental Educator, you will lead the delivery of education programs and activities by providing professional, engaging and accurate information. Through these services, you will actively support BHS in fostering community and lifelong connections with Alberta’s environment.
You Will Also
- Analyze and troubleshoot operational issues related to exhibits and displays across the site.
- Support BHS Visitor Services with answering phone, in person and email inquiries.
- Collaborate with the broader BHS team to maintain resources, facilitate bookings, and develop educational content aligned with environmental education strategies.
- Ensure a positive visitor experience by maintaining knowledge of BHS programs, monitoring displays, and supporting marketing efforts while assisting and training volunteers.
- Foster positive relationships with coworkers, visitors, and stakeholders, uphold Alberta public service (APS) quality service standards, and engage in ongoing learning and special projects as directed.

Minimum requirement - High school diploma with one year of related experience delivering Bow Habitat Station (BHS) programs focused on environmental education and protected areas.
Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
- Ability to obtain a clear criminal record check with a vulnerable sector check.
- Ability to secure a valid Standard First Aid Level C with AED certificate.
- Flexibility to work a shifted schedule, typically Tuesdays through Saturdays, and occasional evening shifts.
- Proven experience in delivering exceptional, high-quality customer service to individuals of all ages and abilities.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to convey information effectively to various audiences via phone, in person, and in writing.
- Proficiency in relevant software and information systems, including point-of-sale systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and various internet/web applications.
- Knowledge of Alberta’s fish, wildlife, and biodiversity is considered an asset.
- Experience in a fast-paced, client- and quality-focused environment.
- Ability to identify and address issues or inefficiencies, along with the capability to develop and communicate actionable recommendations for program and service improvement.
- All candidates must be 18 years of age or older as of Jan 1, 2025, or prior to start date.
