AECOM is seeking a passionate Community Engagement and Communication Intern to be based in Kitchener, Ontario to ensure tremendous outcomes from the work we do with our clients.

Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting multi-disciplinary teams and project managers to develop strategic communication and community engagement plans and activities on behalf of our clients.
  • Supporting tracking and reporting on the results of consultation and engagement.
  • Assisting with public and stakeholder engagement activities and tactics, including in-person and virtual workshops, advisory committees, community meetings, and public open houses.
  • Supporting the development of communication materials including key messages, FAQs, presentations, notices, storyboards, and discussion guides.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree related to Communication, Environmental Planning, or other related field and must have completed at least 1 year of study. Candidates who have recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree and plan to continue with the master’s degree are eligible to apply for this position. Recent graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong analytical, planning, organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills; this role requires continuous interaction with team leaders, client management, and the public.
  • Knowledge of the Canadian regulatory and policy context, Federal and Provincial Impact Assessment processes
  • Being bilingual in English and French would be an asset
  • Experience with government relations, media relations, public relations, stakeholder analysis, and facilitation.
  • Knowledge of project coordination/ management concepts and processes.
