Registered Nurse, ICU Internship Opportunity

A unique opportunity exists for registered nurses with a keen interest to work in the ICU at Mount Sinai Hospital to qualify themselves for current available regular full-time positions.
Successful candidates to this educational opportunity will be required to successfully complete a Critical Care Nursing Certificate course and exam. This course is a 11 week session that involves a combination of in person and web based classroom as well as clinical training. Course tuition and paid time to attend will be provided. You will be compensated at your regular hourly rate for your average weekly earnings. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is a mandated credential for all ICU nurses. ACLS must be obtained within 6 months of completion of the critical care course.
Mount Sinai Hospital reserves the right to cancel this opportunity should the minimum number of participants not be reached. Candidates who successfully complete this program are expected to remain an employee in the ICU for at least one year following the date of which they commence their position. An employee who voluntarily leaves employment prior to the completion of one year of continuous service is required to reimburse Mount Sinai Hospital fifty percent (50%) of the total amount on course/exam monies received.
About The ICU
Consisting of 36 beds, our ICU is a level 3 unit that also cares for level 2 patients, serving a diverse patient population including obstetrical, oncology, medicine, and surgical patients. This unit uses a pod-based design to facilitate efficient care delivery and teamwork, alongside advanced technology for patient care and monitoring. The facility is designed with large windows for natural light, and there is a negative pressure pod and six isolation rooms to control infections. Practical amenities are also provided, including a lounge, kitchenette, shower, and quiet rooms for families and caregivers. In support of ongoing education, there is an education room equipped with a simulation mannequin.

Job Requirements
Mandatory
- Current certificate of registration with the College of Nurses' of Ontario
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
- Note: ACLS certification is a posted requirement for all ICU Registered Nurse positions
- A minimum of 1 year of recent medical/surgical experience
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN)
- Strong interest in critical care nursing and ability/understanding of pathophysiology, pharmacology, and physical assessment
- Strength in self-directed learning
- Expertise in priority setting, critical thinking and clinical decision making
- Proven ability to work collaboratively within a fast paced, high acuity, rapidly changing clinical setting
- Commitment to shared leadership and team based decision making
- Superior interpersonal and communication skills
- Commitment to patient and family centered care
- Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history
