The Role:

BMR is seeking to hire a permanent, full-time Intermediate Structural Technician or Technologist based in Halifax, NS. Our ideal candidate is a motivated self-starter with a broad range of experience in building construction projects that is comfortable working in a collaborative, team-based environment.

Your Education & Experience:

  • Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Architectural Engineering Technician, or similar accredited program from a recognized post-secondary institution
  • 5+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Registration with TechNova considered an asset (C.E.T., C.Tech certifications)

Your Responsibilities:

  • Assist in structural detailing for wide range of building assignments (e.g., new builds, renovations, additions, repairs, etc.). Experience with large, multi-discipline building projects required.
  • Coordinate and troubleshoot project items with all project stakeholders, both internal and external where required.
  • Develop high-quality drawings and 3D models under minimal supervision including cloud-based design processes
  • Review and interpret project specifications
  • Review of technical submissions and shop drawings from external suppliers, contractors, etc. for compliance with contract documents
  • Manage day-to-day contract administration activities with the Project Lead (RFI's, change orders, site meetings, etc.)
  • Conduct construction site reviews and produce site review reports under the supervision of the Project Lead
  • Professionally represent the company with clients and contractors based on a strong 'customer service' approach
  • Demonstrate commitment to life-long learning and maintaining knowledge of new methods, materials, technologies, etc.

Your Qualifications:

  • Experienced in producing complete, high-quality project documents in 2D AutoCAD and 3D Revit Structure. Familiarity with cloud-based BIM applications such as Autodesk BIM360 considered a strong asset
  • Demonstrated experience in reinforced concrete, structural steel, and wood detailing required
  • Excellent people skills and proficiency in English language written and verbal communication required
  • Ability to work in a team under pressure and with multiple assignments
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software
  • Familiarity with NBCC 2015, CSA building design codes, and other regulatory requirements considered an asset
  • Strong commitment to construction safety regulations while conducting site reviews
  • Valid driver's licence and ability to occasionally travel to jobsites within Atlantic Canada.
  • Pro-active ability to self-review and correct your work and to interpret other discipline's project documents
  • Detail-oriented and organized to maintain all project quality standards
