Job Description

Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry, secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSS–related work, Seaspan Shipyards is owning the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians.

The Project Management Office in BTS (Seaspan’s IT department) is looking for a highly motivated intern to join our PMO team on a 4-month term. This role offers hands-on experience in project management, resource management, and strategic planning across a portfolio of IT projects in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will support the Director of PMO and IT Planning in daily operational tasks, reporting, and project coordination, contributing to the overall success of the IT initiatives.

Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 889 Harbourside Drive, North Vancouver.

What You'll Do

  • Project Progress Reporting: Assist in preparing weekly reports on project status across scope, cost, schedule, and resourcing, ensuring that key stakeholders have accurate and timely information.
  • Project Management Standards & Tools: Support the setup and application of project management standards and tools for effective governance of IT projects.
  • Budget Reviews & Delivery Updates: Work with the Director of PMO and project managers to prepare project budget reviews, delivery updates, and progress tracking, including RAID (Risks, Assumptions, Issues, Dependencies) and deliverable tracking.
  • Organizational Reporting: Assist in preparing consolidated reports to the parent company’s PMO for organization-wide project roll-ups and presentations to senior leadership.
  • Resource Management: Support cross-program resource management efforts, including data input on resource time and availability, updates on resource allocations, and reporting on resource utilization across projects.
  • PMO Support Activities: Assist in drafting documents, reports, and presentations for various business functions and leadership teams. Provide general administrative support to the PMO team as needed. Other duties as assigned.


What You'll Bring

  • Enrollment in an IT, Business, Project Management, or a related degree program.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with project management software/tools is a plus (e.g., Smartsheet, Microsoft Project, Jira, MS Azure DevOps).
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies is a plus (e.g., Waterfall, Agile, Hybrid)
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • A keen interest in project management and technology.
  • Gain practical experience in project management and exposure to a large-scale IT environment.
  • Work closely with senior leadership and experienced project managers.

We require a full-time commitment Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week with an hourly rate of $26.00/hour.

Start Date of Internship: January 6th, 2025

End Date of Internship: May 2nd, 2025
