Job Summary
This position is responsible for the provision of physiotherapy assessment, intervention and discharge planning for patients in the Provincial Cardiovascular & Stroke Program at the Health Science Center. Collaboration as a member of an interdisciplinary team to achieve the best outcomes for patients is expected. The case mix on this service is generally respiratory and mobility problems following cardiac surgery, cardiac bypass surgery, valve replacement, myocardial infarction, cerebral vascular accidents. This position also provides pre-operative assessment and teaching, post-operative follow-up as indicated, walking programs, education regarding healthy lifestyle and discharge planning. Weekend coverage and/or on-call service is required on a rotational basis. Supervision of a Physiotherapy Support Worker is expected, as is participation in student education and improvement initiatives of the program and profession.
The position reports to the Division Manager of Cardiology - 5SA. Clinical supervision and mentorship is provided by the Clinical Physiotherapist III for the site as well as the Clinical Physiotherapist II for the Program. This position maintains accountability for professional integrity to the Regional Professional Practice Consultant for Physiotherapy.

Time pressures and interruptions are experienced with little control over work pace.
Higher than normal levels of attentiveness/alertness is required when performing activities in ICU with critically ill patients and dealing with clients with complex medical conditions.
Job Qualifications
Graduation from an approved/recognized School of Physiotherapy program is required.
Registration with the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Physiotherapist (NLCP) is required.
The successful applicant must communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing with co-workers, patients and their families in a one to one and/or group environment; be able to direct, supervise and mentor students and physiotherapy support workers; be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships as a member of an interdisciplinary team and be able to prioritize caseload and patient needs.
A satisfactory record of work performance is required
