As a Community Engagement Lead working in the Building Operations team at Pomerleau Construction, you will play a key role in developing and implementing effective community engagement strategies in remote communities. You will assist in our Indigenous Participation Plan (IPP) for a major project in Northern Ontario. You will have the opportunity to ensure the implementation of a strategy that allows the full participation of Indigenous People in Pomerleau's operations, in collaboration with the various departments. You will also have the opportunity to travel to community approximately 5-10 days per month.

What You Will Do

  • Develop and implement effective community engagement strategies that align with Pomerleau's mission and goals
  • Develop and expand community outreach efforts with community members through various engagement opportunities both in person and online
  • Facilitate events in community
  • Foster relationships with community leaders, partners, and stakeholders to enhance community ties
  • Act as the first point of contact for community members and partners on the project
  • Represent Pomerleau at community events and meetings
  • Develop relationships with the communities, organizations, and clients.
  • Identify and monitor issues and needs of the communities, clients, and partners, and propose ways Pomerleau can support capacity building and mutual benefit.
  • Research and analyze regional, provincial, and national issues affecting Indigenous communities, advising management accordingly.
  • Cultivate ongoing relationships with key Indigenous communities and organizations where projects are located.
  • Contribute to the creation and negotiation of agreements and partnerships with Indigenous groups.
  • Support various departments in meeting Indigenous participation goals and requirements through tailored support and liaison efforts.

This role could be for you if you have

  • University degree in communications, marketing, sustainable development, Indigenous studies, or related field.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in a similar role.
  • Proven skill and experience in building relationships with communities.
  • Knowledge of First Nation history, cultures, and forms of governance.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proven skill and experience in effective communication, conflict resolution and organization
  • Available for frequent travel within Ontario.
  • Knowledge of the construction industry an asset.
