  • Course number and title: CSC498H5S LEC101 – Topics in Computer Science
  • Course description: Introduction to a topic of current interest in computer science intended for CSC majors and specialists. Content will vary from year to year. This course may include a practical or tutorial component, depending on the topic chosen for the year. The contact hours for this course may vary in terms of contact type (L, T, P) from year to year, but will be between 24-48 contact hours in total. See the UTM Timetable.

  • Number of positions: 1
  • TA Support: 54 hours per 30 students enrolled per semester
  • Class Schedule: Wednesday 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM
  • Sessional dates of appointment: January 1, 2025 – April 30, 2025
  • Salary: Rate of pay for Sessional Lecturer I is $13,208.00 per half-course.
  • Minimum qualifications:

    Enrollment in or completion of a graduate degree in Computer Science or education. Advanced comprehension of information security/information security risk management as evidenced by research activity, industry experience, or teaching experience. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.

  • Preferred qualifications: Demonstrated evidence of excellence in teaching preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrable currency and mastery.
  • Description of duties:

    Responsible for all aspects of delivering a university credit course including: developing and delivering lectures; preparing tutorials, assignments, tests, and marking schemes; maintaining a course website; providing appropriate contact time outside of class to students through office hours, emails, the course website, and/or the course discussion board; writing the TA contract(s) for the course and supervising the TAs; managing the grading for the course, which is largely done by TAs; doing any grading not handled by TAs; invigilating the final exam; managing the grades and submitting the final course grades; dealing with student petitions; and setting and grading a make-up exam if required.

    While there is a lot of room for creativity in course delivery, instructors will be expected to follow the basic content and style used by the faculty members who normally teach the course.
