Job Description:

Department Overview

Retail Risk Management (RRM) is responsible for the development and execution of risk strategies and initiatives that will achieve a high level of credit quality, while supporting business growth and profitability targets.
Further, our department is responsible for providing oversight and effective challenge to manage the risk of our credit portfolios within the stated risk appetite, including but not limited to activities associated with the credit application process, adjudication, documentation, funding, maintenance, and collections.

The Real Estate Secured Lending (RESL) Credit Policy Group within RRM provides oversight of credit policy for the RESL business, through the assessment and challenge of credit policy submissions / proposals. Our team is responsible for managing the 2nd line review and approval process for proposed changes to RESL credit policies to ensure robust risk reviews are completed by the business, policy changes are in line with Risk Appetite and compliant with all regulatory and insurer policies as applicable. The Manager, Credit Policy reports to the Senior Manager, Credit Policy and is primarily responsible for assessing, challenging and providing insights and recommendations on policy submissions and other related initiatives. Our team works closely with the RESL Product Group as well as other business partners – such as the Credit Centres, Testing teams, Customer Assistance and other RRM teams on policy initiatives, regulatory reviews and special projects / deep dives.

Job Description

  • Support the Senior Manager, Credit Policy in evaluating RESL credit policy reviews/requests, including conducting research and analysis, providing effective challenge and clearly articulating recommendations on credit policy decisions

  • Work with business product partners in reviewing policy concepts and consulting on credit policy submissions in conjunction with business objectives and with consideration of TD/RESL's risk appetite

  • Collaborate / manage stakeholder relationships, and ensure timely / transparent feedback throughout the policy submission process

  • Communicate policy changes, updates and requests for additional information to business partners in a timely manner

  • Assess new / emerging portfolio risks and recommend modifications to existing policies as required

  • Assist with the deployment of retail credit policy, process and procedural change for optimal efficiency and customer experience

  • Assist in tracking and managing compliance with policy renewals / approval conditions, and ensuring appropriate levels of sign-off are obtained prior to implementation of changes

  • Assist in regulatory (OSFI) reviews, consultations and special requests, as well as related action items / remediation as required

  • Assist in the preparation and presentation of material for senior management and other stakeholders as required

  • Represent RRM as a subject matter expert on key projects that impact credit policies / practices and in monthly business update meetings

  • The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced and results-oriented environment and will be part of a learning culture where ongoing development is encouraged

Job Requirements

  • 5+ years professional experience in any of the following areas: Credit Risk Management, Operational Risk Management, Personal Banking Product Management, Credit Quality Testing, Credit Adjudication/Underwriting

  • Strong business acumen, financial acumen and analytical skill-set - ability to think critically, identify themes and trends through data analysis, and summarize key issues / risks

  • Ability to distill insights and stakeholder feedback into prudent / balanced business recommendations

  • Strong time management skills, with the ability to work well under tight time constraints and manage various deliverables simultaneously

  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and changing priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong ability to negotiate and influence

  • Proven track record of building / fostering relationships and working with numerous stakeholders at various levels

  • Proven self-starter with the ability to work independently

  • Understanding of retail lending credit products, policies and processes - RESL experience is a strong asset

  • Expertise in using analytical software tools (SAS, SQL, Excel), data analysis and reporting techniques would be considered an asset

Education

  • Undergraduate or Post Graduate degree in Business/Commerce or Business Administration would be an asset
