Job Summary
As a member of an interdisciplinary, multi-agency team, the Nurse Practitioner provides quality care to patients of the Children's and Women's Health Program (CWHP). The NP will work with the Children and Youth in Alternate Care (CAYAC) team across the Eastern Region and eventually the province to create a medical health home service for "at risk" children and youth. This position works within the Nurse Practitioner's (NP) scope of practice in the following category of practice: Pediatrics or Family/All Ages. This is an advanced practice role providing professional, analytical and an autonomous comprehensive range of health services to patients including but not limited to health assessments and diagnosis of diseases, disorders, injuries and conditions; treating and managing acute and chronic illnesses and identifying health risks and needs within a holistic model.

Services will be provided using an inter-professional, collaborative, multi-agency approach to care to support patients in accessing the provider at the right time and in the right place. NPs will be expected to practice to their full scope of practice to meet patient needs and requirements. The NP will be responsible for assessment, diagnosis and treatment of aspects of children and youth who access the CAYAC clinic. The work includes but is not limited to trauma informed care of an "at risk" pediatric population. The NP will be responsible for ordering medications, performing or ordering diagnostic tests and treatments, evaluating treatments, providing ongoing follow up care, discharge planning and collaborating across agencies which included conferencing/collaborating with CSSD social workers and their supervisors, educators and their supervisors with NLESD, and other agencies within NLHS as required to support access to timely, effective, efficient pediatric care for this population.

The NP encompasses the roles of practitioner, educator, researcher, leader, and consultant within the regulated scope of practice and CRNNL standards. The NP will participate in research and care guidelines to promote best practices and develop policies and practice guidelines to ensure consistent, evidence-based practice throughout the CAYAC clinic.

Flexible hours may be required (potential for extended clinic days) and/or attending traveling clinics around NL once the program becomes provincial. Visits to schools, daycares, foster homes and group homes may be required.

This position reports to the CWHP Division Manager for the Janeway CAYAC, Lifestyles, Rehabilitation, Outreach, Acute Physiotherapy, and Therapeutic Recreation programs.

Job Demands

Constantly moves, lifts, or operates equipment/machinery up to 10 lbs. and regularly is required to lift/move equipment, books, supplies. May require lifting of children up to 25lbs.
Physical effort also includes regularly stands, sits or walks to conduct patient assessments and treatments, performing work at desks and on the computer.
When performing procedures, regularly uses fine finger/precision work and hand tools (i.e. medical instruments, computer mouse, stethoscope, doppler, scanners, monitors, etc.) requiring accurate control and steadiness.
Visual concentration is required when performing physical assessment and procedures, completing charts/reports, observing patients, reading equipment / monitors, and completing work-related correspondence on paper and computer.
May be required to complete home visits.

Job Qualifications
Completion of an approved/recognized Nurse Practitioner program is required. Current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of NL and Licensed (or eligible for licensure) as a Nurse Practitioner (Pediatrics or Family/All Ages) with the CRNNL is required.
A minimum of five years clinical experience within the last seven in Children and Women's Health is required.
Experience working with "at risk" children and youth, working within mental health or complex care programs especially pediatric, training in "trauma-informed care" and or with children/youth who have suffered abuse are considered assets.
Current BCLS Certification is required.
Possess strong abilities in the areas of collaboration, clinical reasoning, professional development, interpersonal effectiveness, conflict management and teamwork.
Demonstrated progressive clinical leadership skills.
Possess strong communication, problem solving, decision-making, and teaching skills.
Demonstrate ability to function autonomously in an advanced practice role.
Support and participate in research to improve practice and client outcomes.
Demonstrate skills in computer and database management skills.
The use of a private vehicle is required.
A valid Newfoundland and Labrador Class 5 Driver's License is required.
A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
