Raise is hiring a Senior Category Advisor for our client, the third largest producer of Canadian oil and natural gas and the second largest refiner and upgrader with extensive midstream and downstream infrastructure. This position is a one (1) year contract located in Calgary, Alberta. We are actively seeking talented professionals like you to drive these crucial initiatives forward.

Description

The successful candidate will be responsible for the end-to-end category management of the drilling portfolio, which includes subcategories such as drilling rigs, directional drilling, primary cementing, drilling fluids, drill bits and numerous others. Activities include strategy development and implementation for respective subcategories, executing and implementing sourcing initiatives and performance management. There will be a focus on continuously improving the value of the portfolio and creating innovative strategies to further drive value for key stakeholders. In addition, the incumbent in this position is to manage the overall drilling sourcing efforts and coordinate with Enterprise Category Management (ECM) and the SCM Support Center (SSC) to ensure the success of all Well Delivery programs, executing the strategies devised for the successful implementation of these programs, as well as providing solutions and guidance to the other SCM Advisors and Senior Advisors (acting as a subject matter expert on these programs) to develop solutions through analytical, collaborative, and creative thinking.

Accountabilities

  • Develop annual and long-term strategic planning and budgeting to secure supply of goods and services, for a defined portfolio, across the enterprise and managing the associated price and/or supply risks.
  • Ensure our client is conducting business with financially viable, technically qualified suppliers who operate within their expertise and have a proven safety record.
  • Conduct the sourcing and contracting of external goods and services in an efficient, effective manner that brings the maximum value for the organization.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to ensure approved buying, receiving and transportation channels are leveraged to maximize efficiencies within the supply chain and ensure the services and/or materials are available for business function consumption.
  • Ensure data and information created is maintained, accurate and accessible.
  • Ensure compliance to supply chain business rules, approved SCM channels, our clients Code of Business Conduct & Ethics, company policies, standards, processes, and regulatory requirements.

Key Stakeholder Partners

  • Internal: Well Delivery (SCM and business unit), Upstream Category Management, SCM Support Center, the SCM Shared Services team, Community and Indigenous Affairs, Finance, Audit, and other CVE internal teams as required.
  • External: Suppliers and other external groups as needed (e.g. Indigenous groups)

Planning and Budgeting

  • Maintain a high degree of market knowledge.
  • Balance enterprise-wide requirements and SCM resources, ensuring SCM’s ability to deliver.
  • Drive accuracy and credibility in SCM risk assessments and market intelligence.
  • Work with category teams in planning, setting joint targets and management plans, and bringing forward opportunities.
  • Remain informed on and share supply chain trends impacting the business and industry.

Supplier Management

  • Create and support positive and mutually beneficial relationships with our clients suppliers by challenging and motivating suppliers to optimize service outcomes.
  • Ensure suppliers are commercially and technically qualified and meet our clients minimum safety requirements.
  • Establish and maintain supplier performance management practices.

Sourcing and Contracting

  • Provide expertise and oversite on the development and deployment of sourcing strategies, strategic contract negotiations & contract drafting to maximize sustainable competitive advantage and operational performance.
  • Ensure sourcing and contracting strategies support business objectives, approved sourcing channels and enable efficient procurement and materials management practices.
  • Work collaboratively with team and stakeholders to deliver required outcomes in accordance with schedule in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Build and refine fit for purpose bid evaluation models to ensure accurate normalization and thereby enable effective decision-making capabilities for cross functional teams.
  • Guide team in exploring trade‐offs and business benefits of various negotiation strategies/outcomes.
  • Ensure contracts fully reflect final negotiated outcomes and award decisions; complete necessary implementation planning and ensure excellent transition to category management teams.
  • Help institutionalize consistent and leading sourcing processes and practices; ensure consistent use of modern sourcing methods to drive exceptional total value creation and supply assurance.
  • Provide contract expertise and consultation early in the sourcing phase of complex subcategories

Risk Management and Data Integrity

  • Annual performance metrics are identified, monitored and managed to drive team accountability, efficiency and continuous improvement.
  • Identify and apply treatments for supply chain risks.
  • Advance use of analytics to support the aggregation, normalization, and analysis of spend data and identify potential value opportunities.
  • Advance capture and utilization of key market, spend and performance analytics to further business decisions, manage risk to supply and drive value in sourcing and supply activities.
  • Advance spend, category, and other reporting to inform supply chain performance and business decisions.
  • Manage spend data including data cleansing, consolidation and reporting.
  • Maintain taxonomy and associated reporting.
  • Manage price evolution.

Leadership

  • Support teams to maintain in-depth knowledge of their subcategories, suppliers, market trends, innovation and best practices.
  • Inspire team to gain insights through data and analytics to drive fact-based decision making.
  • Surface internal constraints and resolve conflicting viewpoints and complex issues effectively and fairly while delivering high performance, service and quality outcomes.
  • Actively drive and champion system implementation and integration initiatives and continuous improvement initiatives to simplify and improve supply chain solutions.
  • Support the enforcement of and drive compliance to the company Code of Business Conduct & Ethics, company policies, standards, processes, safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify opportunities for process and system improvements to ensure efficient and effective practices.
  • Value and foster inclusion and diversity to create new and improved solutions and ideas.
  • Adhere to and cascade strong ethical principles in all aspects of the work.
  • Build and maintain effective business partner and supplier relationships, interacting through the executive level when required.

Qualifications

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • 8+ years of progressive strategic sourcing and procurement experience; preference for history of progressively senior roles.
  • Post-secondary degree in business or equivalent.
  • Well Delivery experience considered an asset, but not a requirement.
  • SCMP considered an asset.
  • Progressive experience in various aspects of upstream oil and gas with experience in implementing alternate contracting models, low-cost sourcing and advanced sourcing levers.
  • Demonstrated experience contributing to high-performance teams; managing both individual and team performance.
  • Demonstrated strong negotiation skills for complex internal and external application.
  • Sourcing expertise with planning, assessing and implementing outsourcing and multi-sourcing delivery models.
  • Category management and management of cross-functional category teams.
  • Enterprise-wide, strategic thinker.
  • Strong analytical skills; able to solve problems through honest analysis coupled with good judgment; initiative and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent presentation skills; able to speak and write clearly and succinctly in a variety of communication settings and with different levels of stakeholders.
