As Senior Project Manager, you will work on both small and large-scale multiyear projects ($100k to in excess of $100M) including the design and construction of maintenance centers. You will be involved in all project phases, from conception thru to implementation and commissioning. You will be responsible for implementing projects while working in a matrix organizational structure. You will be required to adhere to the company policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

Construction process:

  • Conduct and coordinate design review, compliance reviews, site reviews, and quality audits;
  • Monitor submitted testing and quality records of the work on site, manage the resolution of deficiencies, and facilitate the final handover process to project stakeholders.
  • Conduct detailed quality audits of the work on site, identify and document non-compliance issues, and work with contractor parties to develop corrective action plans.

Safety

  • Monitor all worksite activities for compliance with contractual and VIA Rail’s safety and environmental requirements;
  • Carry out investigations in the event of property damage, accidents or delays and manage all steps to achieve resolution.

Project Management

  • Determine and closely monitor the scope, budgetary and financial forecasts, deadlines, dependencies, risks and problems associated with each project;
  • Schedule monitoring, reporting and ensuring corrective steps are taken and coordinated for delay avoidance and minimization;
  • Monitor and report on key performance indicators and attend follow-up meetings;
  • Plan, organize, execute, and evaluate capital project delivery and ensure project scope, schedule, budget and performance objectives, are in compliance with established standards, guidelines, policies and procedures;
  • Stakeholder coordination.

Note: percent allocation of time will be adjusted depending on project needs and changes of conditions and requirements as the project progresses.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Building Sciences, or Engineering (preferably Civil Engineering), and experience in infrastructure project management;
  • 10+ years of relevant experience;
  • ASP, Quebec Construction Site Safety and other safety-related training (an asset);
  • Independence and experience managing multiple projects simultaneously;
  • Professional designation in Architecture or Engineering in the Province of Ontario and/or Quebec or an equivalent organization, or ability to gain professional designation;
  • PMP certification and strong theoretical and practical knowledge of the PMBOK method (an asset);
  • ISO 9000/9001 certification (an asset);
  • Ability to occasionally travel across Canada (Montréal, Toronto, etc.) and work interprovincially.

Competencies

  • Communicating the specific needs of the project and organization and align them with project requirements;
  • Maintaining harmonious relationships with all stakeholders;
  • Work collaboratively with Railways, Utilities, as well as Municipal and Provincial authorities having jurisdiction.
  • Experience in rail transit infrastructure design, procurement, and execution.
  • Communicating project objectives to team members, including project controllers, and leading them to success;
  • Supervising and coordinating the work of others;
  • Sufficient technical knowledge to comment on plans and quotes;
  • Sufficient technical knowledge in construction contract administration;
  • Establishing a common vision, a clear direction and well-defined priorities;
  • Setting and monitoring budgets, following up on them, analyzing discrepancies and implementing action plans as needed.
