PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

This position, under the Supervisor Intermodal at Calgary IMS, is primarily responsible for transporting crews/employees within local areas including Alyth, Ogden, and Wild Rose, and delivering train documentation and switch lists as needed. Secondary responsibilities include setting up railcars, managing IBCs on containers, conducting yard checks, refueling PPS containers, and maintaining railcar and container inventories in OASIS/Tyes.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Transport Road/Yard and Intermodal/Automotive crews to and from various locations within and around the Calgary Intermodal Yard and Ogden Automotive facilities, as well as to outlying areas such as Alyth, Ogden, and Wild Rose.
  • Inspect and document any damages or defects on equipment exchanged at the Terminal using the necessary interchange forms.
  • Inspect and verify the condition of all refrigerated/heated equipment, complete the required inspection forms, and record seal numbers for import/export containers and other equipment as necessary.
  • When directed, inspect blocking/bracing on outbound units, assemble electric reefer container sets on railcars, connect ground-held reefers, and monitor their performance.
  • Assist with loading and unloading containers to and from railcars and manually prepare railcars for loading various-sized containers by placing pedestals and spacers.
  • Install and remove inter box connectors on double-stack railcars. Clear ice and snow from railcars/containers to guarantee equipment is seated correctly.
  • Conduct yard checks to keep an accurate inventory of containers and railcars, update the relevant inventory systems (OASIS/TYES), and report any exceptions to Customer Service/COG PR/Supervisor as needed.
  • Offer clerical support for Calgary Intermodal by handling tasks such as printing and displaying Operating and Informational Bulletins, the Weekly Crew Change information, Change of Card notices, Safety Reports, and various posters.
  • Manage train documentation as directed by Calgary Intermodal Management, which includes tasks like organizing switch lists, handling dangerous goods documentation, preparing outbound train documentation, and dealing with documents related to the OASIS system.
  • Help maintain office equipment at crew reporting locations, including FIT Printers, fax machines, VMUs, and computers.
  • Support vehicle maintenance by delivering vehicles for repair and picking up replacements.
  • Manage and distribute supplies as needed in the Calgary Intermodal and Ogden Automotive Compound, including gloves, vests, safety glasses, lanterns, batteries, and radios.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Must possess a class 5 driver’s license
  • Must have a clean driving abstract
  • Possesses a strong sense of urgency to efficiently complete assigned tasks.
  • Capable of achieving daily objectives with minimal oversight.
  • Utilizes feedback on work performance as a tool for continuous improvement.
  • Exhibits exceptional attention to detail to ensure the precision of loading and unloading operations.
  • Demonstrates advanced literacy, including the ability to comprehend and follow written instructions; may also require training in specific skills.
  • Maintains a high level of situational awareness to ensure a safe working environment

Physical / Sensory Demands

  • Engage in 8–12-hour shifts that involve driving, working outdoors, performing physical labor tasks. This includes ascending and descending railcars, preparing railcars for use, and operating IBCs.

  • The job involves working outdoors, exposed to various weather conditions
