The House of Commons Finance Services, and particularly its Policy Services, is currently looking to staff the position of Senior Policy and Project Officer. 

Qualified candidates may be considered for future employment opportunities, whether permanent or temporary, for this role or similar and/or related positions, including various classifications. 

This position plays a crucial role in shaping policies for Members and House Officers of the House of Commons. The responsibilities include reviewing, analyzing and developing policies related to the allowances, entitlements and services provided to Members, House Officers and their employees.   

Specifically, key aspects of the role include providing advice on the application and interpretation of the policies adopted by the Board of Internal Economy; drafting Board submissions and information notes on policy issues, as well as official correspondence and policy amendments; leading comprehensive consultations with internal partners; and ensuring the accuracy of the policy material, including the Members' Allowances and Services Manual.

Education: 

University degree from a recognized institution in a related field such as public administration, political science, law, international relations, finance, commerce, business administration, or equivalent related education, training and experience. 

Experience:  

  • Experience in policy development, research, and analysis, supported by strong analytical skills; 
  • Experience preparing reports, briefing notes and official correspondence, with excellent drafting skills and strong attention to detail; 
  • Experience providing policy advice and interpretation to clients, including senior management; 
  • Experience in conducting extensive consultations with stakeholders (e.g., other service areas or branches and/or external stakeholders); 
  • Experience managing multiple files and projects concurrently with tight deadlines.
