EY's multidisciplinary Business Tax Incentives team, specializing in tax credits for Scientific Research and Experimental Development, SRED, is seeking an experienced candidate with a software development or information technology background to deliver advisory services to our clients in Vancouver and Western Canada. We offer an excellent opportunity for talented people to play a key role in EY's rapidly growing and dynamic incentives practice. You will interact with clients at the forefront of technology and be exposed to exciting research and development initiatives in IT, software, and telecommunications.

Opportunity:

As a Business Tax Incentives, IT Manager you will lead a team while working with a variety of clients from entrepreneurs to public corporations, to evaluate and prepare their SRED claims. Leveraging your thorough understanding of web technologies and software architectures, you will be responsible for leading and developing a team of engineers and data scientists to provide value to clients. This involves meeting with CTOs, Chief Architects, and Software Developers to assess the client's eligibility to receive funding, establishing how much they can claim, and writing technical project descriptions that detail the innovation and development activities for each project. You will discuss new prototypes, innovative software architectures, improved algorithms, and new frameworks This is an ideal opportunity for someone who has a Computer Science degree and work experience in the field who wants to continue their career in technology with more exposure to the business and financial side of an organization.

Core elements of the role include:

  • Meeting with clients and using your broad knowledge of current technologies to identify opportunities for claiming SRED in the fields of software development, cyber security, wireless networks, data analytics, defense, and robotics as well as AI.
  • Mentoring and managing Tax Staff and Senior Tax Staff.
  • Preparing and reviewing detailed project descriptions for clients' research and development activities.
  • Leading and assisting reviews with the Canada Revenue Agency.
  • Managing client expectations, workflow and ensuring strict deadlines are met.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related discipline.
  • An MBA credential is an asset.
  • Advanced knowledge of web technologies, cloud computing, programming languages, and telecommunication technologies
  • The ability to think creatively and innovate on the spot solutions to client issues.
  • Excellent interpersonal abilities and exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities and deliver high quality work in a deadline-oriented environment.

Preference will be given to those with previous practical SRED program experience.

The salary range for this job in British Columbia $92,000 to $144,000. Individual salaries within this range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills and work city location.
