Length of Assignment: Permanent

Salary: $65,000-$70,000/year

Our client in Toronto, ON is actively looking for a Health & Safety Coordinator to join their team.

Position Description

Job Purpose:

Review, evaluate and monitor health and safety hazards and develop strategies to prevent, control and eliminate accidents and occupational injuries.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead and participate in workplace audits, investigations and reporting of safety concerns, incidents and accidents
  • Lead and participate in workplace inspections to ensure that equipment, production processes, housekeeping, etc. do not present a safety or health hazard to employees
  • Lead and participate in Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings.
  • Lead and participate in emergency response and evacuation drills
  • Develop and implement health and safety programs, including standard operating procedures, policies and training to mitigate risk, optimize worker's health and safety and foster a positive occupational health and safety culture
  • Initiate enforcement procedures on workplaces contravention.
  • Provide training to employers, employees on issues of workplace safety
  • Communicate, engage and influence decision-makers and workers to ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and regulations.
  • Ensure that safety supplies are maintained in good order.
  • Ensure that material SDS are available and material handling and storage is conducted in a healthy and safe manner.
  • Assist in preparing and submitting legislative reports related to environment and safety
  • Stay up-to-date in OHSA and Environmental legislations
  • Prepare monthly statistical reports on safety performance within the company and implement strategies to improve

Qualification, Skills And Experience

  • At least 1 years' experience in a manufacturing plant (preferably chemical manufacturing) in the role.
  • Competition of an Occupational Health and Safety Co-op Program that includes the following:
    • Epidemiology and disease processes
    • Safety systems and accident history
    • Management and law
    • Health research methods
    • Occupational hygiene and toxicology
    • Risk assessment and communication health education, promotion and planning.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications, especially Excel
  • Must possess excellent communication (verbal and written)
  • Ability to conduct meetings and provide employee training
  • Must be detailed oriented possess analytical skills
  • Must have problem solving skills.
  • Eager to learn, have a strong sense of urgency and the desire to influence management and workers.
