SCOPE:
The Engineering Department is looking to add a Surveyor 2 to the Project Delivery Division. This position performs working level surveying work, supervising survey staff, obtaining data and field measurements for office interpretative purposes, and performing calculations on survey data.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operates survey instruments in performing legal and control surveys and obtaining data for topographic, preliminary, construction, and as-built purposes on City Engineering projects, including making computations and compiling detailed field notes.
- Lays out features for construction of roads, sewers, water, street lighting, and other City services.
- Supervises, directs and trains survey crew members.
- Provides information and explanations to other Engineering Department staff.
- Performs office work related to survey work.
- Assists other crew members in performing their duties.
- Responds to routine inquiries from the public.
- Drives a City vehicle to and from job site. Other job related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of Grade 12, supplemented by the successful completion of a one year certificate in Survey from a recognized technical school.
- Considerable experience in all types of City surveying.
- Demonstrated skills in the direction of survey staff, survey calculations, and the use of survey instruments.
- Valid BC Drivers License
- Demonstrates independent judgment and initiative in action taken in performing duties of the position.
- Exercises judgment in protecting the public and the City's interests.
- Prepares detailed field notes on survey work performed.
- Considerable skill in the use of all survey instruments and equipment.
