This position resides in the Ministry of Health under the Acute Care Division, within the Quality Planning & Performance Programs Branch

Role Responsibilities

Position Overview: We are seeking a dynamic Manager to oversee and coordinate a growing policy portfolio aimed at ensuring effective access and delivery of health care in Alberta's hospitals. This role involves providing leadership and expertise in policy development and strategic planning to advance the Ministry's commitments in acute care.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Policy Development

  • Lead and manage research, policy, and strategy development in support of the Ministry's acute care priorities and Business Plan.
  • Coordinate the development and implementation of a comprehensive framework for acute care policy, supporting departmental leadership in enhancing health system capacity.
  • Support effective communication strategies for significant announcements related to wait times and access.

Issues Management

  • Proactively coordinate issues management processes to ensure timely and comprehensive responses.
  • Collaborate with partners to improve provincial wait times and realize treatment improvements through strategic planning initiatives.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Develop communication materials to inform and educate internal and external stakeholders, including preparing Ministerial correspondence.
  • Review and prepare updates and briefings for senior leadership and collaborate with Communications on announcements and briefings.

Collaboration & Integration

  • Work with Unit and Divisional colleagues to ensure health standards, evidence-based practices, and quality initiatives are integrated into policy.
  • Provide consultation and advice to stakeholders on policy alignment with the Government of Alberta's priorities for the acute care system.

Oversight & Analysis

  • Oversee policy and legislative reviews related to acute care priorities within the Ministry.
  • Analyze domestic and international trends in health care to inform policy development.
  • Assist in data collection and analysis on acute care health outcomes in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

Relationship Management

  • Build and sustain strategic networks with internal and external stakeholders to advance key health system priorities.
  • Represent the branch on cross-ministry committees and engage staff in business planning, progress monitoring, and communications.

Operational Support

  • Support the Director in leading Unit operations to achieve strategic and operational goals.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the team, fostering professional development and cross-training.
  • Support Unit budget activities and act on behalf of senior leadership during absences.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

University graduation in a field related to the position assignment (Public Administration,Health care Administration or Business Administration), supplemented by four (4) years progressively responsible leadership experience. Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis.

Required

  • Proven experience in policy development and management within a health care context.
  • Extensive experience within the health care system, enabling a deep understanding of the complexities of health system issues and fostering credibility with stakeholders in health care delivery and related organizations.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Alberta's health system, including health care delivery models, health reform initiatives, and current health issues, along with familiarity with government directives and priorities.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage diverse stakeholders.

This is a full-time permanent position working 36.25 hours per week.

Location: Edmonton.

Candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower classification and salary. This competition may be used to fill future roles at the same or lower classifications.
