Summary
The project manager will assemble his/her team and plan, distribute and supervise the work of team members. The incumbent will ensure the proper functioning of the team as well as manage and resolve team-related issues that hinder the attainment of production objectives in terms of deliverables and quality.
Responsibilities:
The main and routine tasks of the project manager are to:
* Give effect to project targets in terms of workload and/or resources when defining the scope and deliverables or requests for changes in the course of the project and implement processes to resolve team-related issues whenever necessary;
* Organize and coordinate the various activities and resources involved in the project process at all phases;
* Challenge team members whenever necessary to ensure that the technical decisions are sound and supported by facts;
* Provide updates on the advancement of the deliverables to the team and project directors (planned versus actual) and implement solutions to lessen gaps;
* Understand the game’s technical and artistic constraints and know the major aspects of the game (story, gameplay, vision) to properly direct/coach the team;
* Approve and/or get approval for the work carried out by team members at the end of each work phase (iterative process);
* Ensure team mobilization by regularly gauging team spirit, determining the root causes of issues and implementing effective solutions;
* Prevent and manage conflicts among team members in order to maintain a work environment that fosters development, creation and the attainment of work objectives;
* Coach employees to be successful in their work in order to foster their development by helping to determine development activities (training, mentoring, etc.) to meet team needs and the individual needs of team members;
* Implement/optimize team work methods and processes that are adapted to the project;
* Provide information to team members on the project to keep them informed on the advancement of the game development process and the work of other units and pass on
relevant team information to the immediate supervisor so that he/she has is up-to-date on the team;
* Carry out evaluations throughout the year and lead the annual performance assessments of team members and identify and manage underperforming members and/or interpersonal conflicts;
* Select team members in collaboration with the internal assignment service, recruiting service and immediate supervisor by helping to select resumes, conduct interviews and test internal and external applicants;
* Ensure that the teams have the necessary technical support (Build and release specialist, hardware, TD, documents, tools) to ensure proper team production;
* Encourage collaborations and knowledge sharing among team members and teams on other projects;
* Carry out all other related tasks.
Training
Bachelor’s degree in Computer science or Computer engineering and certification in project management or equivalent.
Relevant Experience
* 5-7 years’ experience in his/her field of expertise;
* Participation in at least two complete game productions
* Minimum 2 years’ experience as a team lead an asset.
