Wood is seeking a Process Department Manager to join our Mining & Minerals business group. Reporting to the Office Engineering Manager, this position is located at our Saskatoon, SK office. The Process Department Manager has overall responsibility for the quality delivery of process engineering within projects, ensuring that projects are technically supported from a process engineering perspective, providing direction and mentorship to process engineers, assigning work, supervising activities and coordinating across project interfaces. Responsibilities

  • Provide input in the areas of execution plan, engineering cost estimates, resourcing and schedules for proposals.
  • Assist discipline leads with establishing and maintaining project plans, scope, schedules and budgets.
  • Assign qualified staff to projects in coordination with the discipline leads.
  • Monitor the performance of the department on each project including manhour usage, progress and quality.
  • Take corrective action where necessary to control engineering work within budget and schedule.
  • Approve deliverables such as process plant mass balance, process design criteria, PFDs, P&IDs, plant layouts, and 3-D models.
  • Approve technical specifications, technical evaluations, and recommendations for equipment purchases.
  • Prepare, maintain and assure compliance with engineering procedures and quality control standards.
  • In conjunction with the office engineering manager and other engineering disciplines, participate in the formulation, improvements and subsequent implementation of corporate and project software, design tools, Engineering Policies, Procedures, Instructions, Forms and Standards.
  • Promote, supervise, and monitor inter-department relations between Business Units, projects and other departments with respect to performance of process engineering and design
  • Recruit, interview, evaluate and manage staffing levels to ensure project staffing and office utilization targets are achieved.
  • Conduct staff performance and personal development reviews and recommendations to senior management for promotion, salary levels, work assignment and external training programs.
  • Delegate tasks and authority to discipline leads as required and supervise resulting action.
  • Provide guidance, support, mentoring and direction to process engineering staff on projects including codes and standards, and best practices.
  • Ensure appropriate people are retained and developed within the process team to maintain and improve technical expertise and to deliver high-quality process engineering work for studies and projects
  • Promote, supervise, and monitor compliance with Wood HSSE, Risk Management and QM Procedures for department and project work
  • Participate in office and project audits as directed by management
  • Provide support during construction, commissioning, and startup activities.
  • Interact with client process engineers on design issues and incorporate client requirements in a cost effective and low risk manner.
  • Interact with industry professionals, vendors, and professional organizations to maintain a knowledge of technical advancements and how these might be applied to improve client services and products.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate or Graduate Degree in Chemical Engineering or Extractive Metallurgy.
  • Recognized expertise in potash and/or uranium processing. Other relevant experience with other metals such as gold, copper, cobalt and nickel are considered an asset.
  • Experience in greenfield or large brownfield projects is required ($50M-$500M).
  • 15 + years of progressive experience in process engineering, with broad exposure to various minerals industry process activities and operations is necessary.
  • Experience in consulting engineering and EPCM project office environments is a requirement.
  • Experience managing feasibility or similar studies is considered an asset.
  • Registered with APEGS, or eligible for registration.
  • In depth technical knowledge of process plant design and operation with the ability to deliver best practice plant design.
  • Understanding of international standards and regulatory authority requirements in the mining and minerals industry.
  • Experience with process modelling software (e.g., Metsim, SysCAD) is considered an asset.
  • Experience estimating capital and operating costs for potash and/or uranium processes.
  • Capacity to improve and refine practices and systems within the process division to meet organization objectives.
  • Good understanding of the commercial aspects of the business.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Authorization to lawfully work in the Canada without sponsorship from Wood is required.
  • Working out of the Saskatoon office is required.
