Parkwood Seniors Community is a not-for-profit, charitable, faith-based Continuum of Care located in Waterloo (corner of University Avenue and New Hampshire Street) supported by 23 Mennonite and Brethren in Christ Congregations. It is one of two campuses of Fairview Parkwood Communities.
Reports to the Director of Hospitality and Director of food Services of the Long Term Care residence and is responsible for ensuring that proper meals are prepared and served on time and that work areas are maintained in a safe and sanitary condition;
Assist in the receiving of food and other supplies.
Assists in maintaining a safe and secure environment for residents, visitors and other staff members. All duties are performed in the best interest of the residents and their families, and in accordance with Parkwood's vision, mission and values statements.
Oher aspects of the job include:
- Prepares ingredients and supplies required for meal preparation (e.g., chopping vegetables, preparing sauces)
- Cooks a variety of meats, fish, poultry, vegetables and other food items
- Follows menu, portion controls, and plate presentation specifications according to established standards
- Organizes food prep station to ensure smooth and efficient flow in the kitchen
- Ensures timely preparation of all meals
- Ensures correct labelling of food and leftovers
- Follows quality standards for presentation and service of food
- Tracks and monitors kitchen inventory
- Stocks inventory, as needed on an ongoing basis
- Collaborate and liaises with team members to deliver quality nutrition care to residents
- Prepares work areas and ensures the kitchen is clean and ready for the next shift
- Receives and stores food and non-food supplies
- Orders food, supplies and kitchen equipment, as needed
- Assists in the setup, clearing and cleaning of the dining room, as required
- Assists with meal preparation for special events and specific organizational functions, as required
FOOD SAFETY, HYGIENE AND SANITATION
- Cleans and sanitizes work areas, walk-in, refrigerators and storage areas, equipment and utensils according to Public Health requirements
- Ensures that all food products are handled, stored, prepared and served safely in accordance with food safety guidelines
- Keeps kitchen in a stocked, clean, and organized condition
- Follows food safety, hygiene and sanitation standards
You are an experienced cook who enjoys working in a team environment, ensuring high quality results and meeting food safety, HACCP and OHS standards. You will be required to . follow basic recipes, prepare food using various kitchen equipment such as:
- Rationale Ovens
- Steamers
- Tilt Kettles
- Flat top
- Steam wells
- Slicer
- Stand Mixer
- Knives
. You will be responsible for estimating food requirements, checking your production and keeping records to accurately plan production needs, supplies and equipment. You will be required to maintain your workstation in a clean and sanitized manner and follow regulatory health and safety rules and procedures.
You will have a minimum of 2 years experience in a similar role, excellent customer service and teamwork skills. Strong time management skills and knife skills. You are able to work under pressure and ensure compliance with health and safety procedures.
