Profile Summary

Our client is poised for substantial growth over the next several years and in preparation for this exciting and challenging phase, we are actively seeking a highly engaged, driven and experienced Construction Safety Officers to join our team to support numerous projects across the lower mainland.

Working collaboratively with the site team and our trades, the Construction Safety Officer (CSO) will enforce our company Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Program. As the CSO, you will work closely with the Site Superintendent in completion of all necessary inspections, investigations and reporting to ensure that no person can be exposed to unsafe acts or unsafe conditions.

Key Accountabilities

  • Review subcontractor documentation for accuracy and provide feedback to personnel.
  • Assist in the planning and start-up of new projects by establishing site safety plans.
  • Ensure safety related training of subcontractor’s workers; conduct new worker safety orientations.
  • Conduct safety meetings and toolbox talks. Gather similar meeting minutes from all subcontractors.
  • Provide updates to management on the status of any issue(s) that may impact work on site.
  • Prepare, update and maintain site safety plans.
  • Promote and support safe working conditions.
  • Enforce safety regulations, safe work practices and safe job procedures.
  • Conduct hazard assessments.
  • Maintain and prepare thorough documentation and reports.
  • Provide First Aid coverage as required by the Project.
  • Participate in daily safety interactions, including performing and documenting daily safety inspections (including tools/equipment) and auditing to ensure adherence to standards.
  • Facilitate and participate in incident investigations and risk assessments, as required.
  • Ensure that all accidents, incidents and injuries are properly reported to all appropriate parties.
  • In collaboration with the Director of OHS, provide regular worksite safety training for all employees including new worker orientation, sub-contractor orientation and topics such as WHMIS, company policies and procedures, lockout, respirator fit tests, hearing tests, etc.
  • Coordinate Safety Data Sheet library for controlled products.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience

  • Completion of recognized Construction Safety Officer certification
  • Occupational First Aid Level 2 (Intermediate) or Level 3 (Advanced). If Level 2 (Intermediate), must have the Transport Endorsement training as well.
  • Experience in health and safety or a similar Construction Safety Officer role in a multifamily high-rise residential environment.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Positive attitude and a desire to help others.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in MS Office applications including Outlook and Word.
