Job Summary: The Marketing and Communications Officer focuses on promoting engagement and a positive public image among VON's various audiences and advancing VON's profile in the communities it serves. The Officer works with the Engagement and Philanthropy team and internal stakeholders across Nova Scotia and Ontario to contribute to strategy development and to implement tactical solutions aligned to VON's priorities Key Responsibilities:

Job Summary: The Marketing and Communications Officer focuses on promoting engagement and a positive public image among VON's various audiences and advancing VON's profile in the communities it serves. The Officer works with the Engagement and Philanthropy team and internal stakeholders across Nova Scotia and Ontario to contribute to strategy development and to implement tactical solutions aligned to VON's priorities Key Responsibilities:
- Contributes to content development by planning, writing, and editing for a variety of internal and external channels and materials.
- Creates and coordinates posting of engaging content for social media channels and supports colleagues who manage local channels.
- Supports the development of employee communications through consultations with internal clients and understanding the contextual environment.
- Collaboratively coordinates the creation and updates of web content; follows content related protocols to keep website up-to-date.
- Establishes and contributes to media archives using media monitoring tools and monitors industry news, reporting to management on key trends or potential public image risks as needed.
- Maintains brand, style guide and marketing tools, including print templates, image and video banks, and policies and guidelines.
- Assists with corporate photo and video shoots by supporting the coordination of production schedules, logistics, project management and vendor communication.
- Proofreads, edits and provides quality control on reports and external documents as needed
- Engages with cross functional teams to support fund development and marketing projects across the organization.
- Develops working relationships with clients, donors, prospective donors and partners, community volunteers, reporters and editors to support fund development and other campaig
- Relevant post-secondary education in marketing, public relations, journalism, business administration or equivalent experience in media relations, communications and/or marketing with a minimum of 3 years' professional experience.
- Advanced experience using computer software programs including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) and Content Management Software (Drupal preferred), Canva, and Hootsuite.
- In-depth knowledge of Search Engine Optimization (SEO), keyword search and Google Analytics.
- Experience managing and scheduling social media and web content, with expertise in multiple social media platforms.
- Experience working in marketing, or the health or non-profit sector an asset.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent proofreading, copy editing and quality control.
- Creative writing, thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills including the ability to relate effectively with people at all levels (internal and external).
- Strong time management, project management, organizational skills and reliability.
- Ability to work as part of a team as well as to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to exercise initiative, tact, discretion and judgment; ability to deal effectively with people and work under pressure.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- This is a remote-work position which may be based out of Nova Scotia or Ontario.
- The successful candidate will be required to provide a current and original copy of a satisfactory Criminal Records check.
- A Vulnerable Sector Search and/or Child Abuse Registry Check may be required
- Ability to speak, read and/or write in French is an asset.
