The Opportunity

McElhanney has an exciting opportunity for an Intermediate Onsite Construction Supervisor / Inspector to join our team based in Edmonton, AB. In this role, you will be integral to continue expansion of our field construction services across a range of projects ranging from municipal roadways, urban streetscapes, including underground infrastructure upgrades. Working closely with our Construction Manager and/or Project Managers, you will be the field lead on various infrastructure projects to offer professional services and insight. What You’ll Be Doing


  • Responsible for contract administration and provide on-site construction supervision / inspection(s)
  • Monitor for quality, quantity, and progress of all construction activities with the development of monthly progress payments
  • Author daily inspection reports, and other associated contract administration tasks
  • Apply various municipal construction specifications, municipal details, and engineering drawings to real life applications
  • Review materials testing results as required and communicate to Clients, Project Managers, Engineers, Contractors, and Approving Agencies related to the project
  • Review Contractor’s submissions and provide recommendations
  • Prepare and chair on-site progress meetings with Clients, Contractors and their Sub-Contractors
  • Identify the required resources and assign / allocate individual responsibilities on site
  • Understand the hazards and safe work procedures for each task at the specific inspection location to include reporting inspection issues to Senior Supervisor
  • Understand, commit to, and fulfill responsibilities under the McElhanney Quality Management System, ISO 9001 and all client quality, safety, and environmental management systems
  • Provide mentorship and leadership to junior, support, or technical staff


What You’ll Bring


  • Minimum of 12 years of field /construction related experience with regional Edmonton municipalities with familiarity to Alberta Transportation specifications
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in a relevant field along with specific road building experience is an asset
  • Ability to work long hours in the Edmonton region: up to 12 hours a day, 6 days a week, with fatigue relief as required by relevant Regulations
  • Willingness to commit to construction projects for the duration of the project
  • Must have experience with municipal, roads, highways, bridge, construction projects; materials testing, underground infrastructure, and/or survey experience is an asset Ability to foresee potential issues and problems so these items can be addressed and resolved
  • Exceptional organization and follow-up skills; ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment, meticulous note keeping
  • Clean driving record and the ability to comply with client-driven D&A testing requirements

What Can We Offer You?

The salary range for this position is $85,000 - $110,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
