Job Description

We are seeking a Benefits/Actuarial Analyst to join our team in Edmonton/Calgary, Alberta. As Benefits/Actuarial Analyst, you will provide group benefits consulting support, including design and financial management for clients and prospects. You will prepare pension calculations, analysis, and reports, work closely with internal consulting teams, interface with vendors, support client deliverables, and ensure quality standards are met.

The Benefits/Actuarial Analyst will:

  • Contribute to the overall design and management of group medical, dental, life, disability and special risk benefits for clients.
  • Perform annual renewal analysis and negotiations with carriers; prepare client reports and presentations
  • Complete experience reporting, budget projections and reviewing plan financial performance
  • Review financial statements for accuracy and adherence to underwriting agreements
  • Gather data and determine cost impact for plan design changes
  • Conduct marketings; including preparing and submitting specifications, analysis, cost comparisons and recommendations on marketing responses, and preparing marketing report
  • Support the consulting team in preparing documents for client presentations and meetings
  • Participate in industry conferences, seminars, etc. in order to keep abreast of industry trends and activities
  • Build relationships with clients, carriers, and internal, cross-functional teams
  • Complete year-end tasks such as preparing annual OPEB statements, member reconciliations and fund reconciliations
  • Perform complex calculations and assist with the preparation of actuarial valuations of OPEB plans
  • Draft professional reports and correspondence
  • Assist with special projects


T o be successful as a Benefits/ Actuarial Analyst with People Corporation, you will need :

  • Post secondary diploma or degree in business, mathematics, actuarial science or related disciplines
  • 1-2 years’ experience in analyst or related role
  • Progression towards an actuarial designation is an asset but not required
  • Advanced competency with Microsoft Excel
  • Proficiency with Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy
  • Ability to manage and prioritize competing demands in order to meet client and company needs
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Sensitivity to confidential information


All-star candidates will have:

  • Exceptional client focus and professional acumen
  • Familiarity with actuarial valuation software ProVal is an asset but not required
  • Progression towards an actuarial designation is an asset but not required
  • Bilingual (French and English) is an asset but not required
  • Coding/VBA experience
  • Microsoft Power Platform Experience
