MLSE Digital Labs is seeking a highly motivated Intermediate Backend Engineer to join the team. This individual will be primarily working to establish standards around and implement telemetry in for internal & external web applications and will be reporting to the Technical Lead.
Position Type: Contractor until June 30th 2025
- Develop and deploy existing TypeScript applications into our Kubernetes clusters following modern DevOps practices and security standards.
- Design and implement a standard, extensible telemetry library that can be integrated within our web application templates and existing apps.
- Build performant, highly available, and scalable multi-tenant applications.
- Assess and analyze existing application anomalies and build out telemetry to weed out root causes and streamline bug triage.
- Establish engineering best practices and maintain a department-wide body of knowledge for generating telemetry metrics, traces, and logs.
- Partner with other teams like infrastructure and application engineering to define metadata layers, technical strategy, and efficient integration within the existing landscape.
- Provide high-level work estimates of new feature development.

- Enthusiasm to learn and grow both technical and analytical skills.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and balance multiple projects simultaneously.
- Curiosity around emerging technologies and approaches to software design.
- Familiarity with software engineering best practices, including coding standards, code reviews, build processes, testing, and operations.
- Understanding of Agile methodologies.
- Experience taking a project from requirements gathering to project launch with minimal guidance.
- Ability to prioritize, track, and handle work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong software engineering experience with focus on JavaScript/TypeScript.
- Prior experience integrating an external telemetry vendor into TypeScript applications.
- Prior experience building reusable libraries that can be integrated into existing Node API frameworks, such as Express.
- Comfortable with containerizing applications using Docker.
- Experience using source control technology such as GitHub.
- Proficiency in deploying full-stack applications on AWS.
- Experience with CI/CD automation such as GitHub Actions.
- Nice to have: Experience deploying applications into Kubernetes using Helm.
