Position Overview:

The City of Saint John is currently seeking a Journeyman Electrician. Under the direction of the Superintendent, Asset & Energy Management, the Facilities Management Journeyperson Electrician will be responsible for all electrical equipment and associated controls as well as electrical related service calls and preventative maintenance operations at City owned and operated facilities. The incumbent will also be responsible for small electrical upgrade and renovation projects. Responding to after-hours emergency requests is an essential component of this role.

Working conditions may include night shifts, overtime including shift extensions, weekends and/or statutory holidays as required to respond to seasonal requirements and unforeseen circumstances. Work requires a high level of attention or mental sensory coordination with some physical effort and frequent exposure to heat, cold, fumes, dirt, oil, chemicals, welding, cutting and gouging equipment.

Essential Qualifications:

The successful candidate will be a licensed Journeyperson Electrician with a valid Class 5 Driver's License. The incumbent must have experience working with commercial electrical systems as well as knowledge of generator operations and maintenance. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook is required. A criminal record security clearance is required.

The successful applicant will be eligible to work a compressed work week of 4 days (Monday to Thursday) throughout the trial period of the City's recently adopted Compressed Work Week Trial. This schedule is subject to change.
