Position Overview

The Airport Coordinator, under the direction of the Airport Manager, is responsible to providing the day-to-day supervision and direction of Airport Operations. The Airport Coordinator is required to supervise Airport Maintenance staff and Janitors and to direct and perform required functions to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the Airport. This position is responsible for staff scheduling, maintaining inventory and ordering operating supplies for the Airport. This position will assist with budget preparations, project management, aviation safety, operating records and data management, maintenance planning and stakeholder consultations. The position will also be designated as back up for the Airport Manager.

Principle Duties & Responsibilities

  • Staff scheduling to ensure proper operations and oversite of the Airport.
  • Maintain the airfield in accordance with operations manuals / agreements, current aerodrome related regulations and standards.
  • Perform maintenance of airport infrastructure, grounds, buildings, access roads and parking lots.
  • Assist in developing Plan of Construction Operations (PCO)
  • Maintain a secure airfield from unauthorized access.
  • Lead orientation and training of new airport staff.
  • Ensure verification of timecard accuracy.
  • Monitor AMSCR & AIM reports for accuracy.
  • Monitor fleet inspections and maintenance.
  • Assist in preparing invoicing requests.
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for airport operations.
  • Direct contractors and other City Crews working at the Airport.
  • Perform assigned duties in absence of Airport Manager including but not limited to:
  • On-scene controller
  • Manage NOTAMs including issuing, revising and cancelling NOTAMs
  • Monitor publications (CFS, CAP) for accuracy and review Advisory Circulars and Regulation changes impacts on Airport operations.
  • Duties of Safety Management System Manager
  • NavCanada & Transport Canada liaison duties
  • Customer services duties for tenants, pilots and passengers
  • Prepare regulatory reports (i.e. Migratory Birds Airport Permit Report, etc.)
  • Conduct hazard analyses and perform risk assessments
  • Process parking requests
  • Ensure operational records and databases are up to date and meeting the regulatory requirements.
  • Provide direction and supervision of all employees.
  • Provide operational coverage where required.
  • Responsible for encouraging and maintaining high level of safety and communication with all staff working under their supervision.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Key Knowledge, Technical Skills And Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of required Airport regulations and Standards
  • Demonstrated knowledge of airport specific maintenance standards and procedures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of aviation safety related to airport operations.
  • Ability to operate all required maintenance equipment.
  • Thorough knowledge of principles related to Airport operations.
  • Ability to provide supervision and accountability to staff under their supervision.
  • Ability to exercise individual judgement respecting efficient and safe operations of equipment, quality of work, selection of correct materials and strategies.
  • Ability to execute and maintain required records, invoices, schedules and reports.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees and the general public.
  • Knowledge of current OH&S standards and regulations
  • Ability to plan, train and supervise the activities of employees.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation and provide recommendations to the manager.
  • Proven ability to accept responsibility and demonstrate leadership.

Required Qualifications

Successful completion of a diploma in Aviation Management or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in the maintenance and operation of Airports.
  • Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License relevant to airport equipment type. (Minimum Class 5 A-G)
  • Must possess and maintain an Industry Canada - Restricted Operator Certificate – Aeronautical. (Radio Licence)
  • Must possess and maintain an Airside Vehicle Operator's Permit (AVOP).
  • Must possess and maintain an AMSCR-CRFI (GRF) certificate.
  • Experience working in a municipal organization is an asset.
