What Role You Will Play In Our Team
The Imperial Oil Strathcona Refinery is looking for a fulltime laboratory Technologist. The Laboratory operates 7 days a week with rotating evening and weekend shifts. Day shift hours are typically 7:00am to 3:30pm Monday through Friday, with some areas operating from 6:00am to 2:30pm. You will be responsible for qualifying and testing manufactured products and supporting refinery operations and condition monitoring at various stages in the refining process. You will also be responsible for ensuring adherence to our quality systems and processes.

What Role You Will Play In Our Team
The Imperial Oil Strathcona Refinery is looking for a fulltime laboratory Technologist. The Laboratory operates 7 days a week with rotating evening and weekend shifts. You will be responsible for qualifying and testing manufactured products and supporting refinery operations and condition monitoring at various stages in the refining process. You will also be responsible for ensuring adherence to our quality systems and processes.
What You Will Do
As the successful candidate, you will
- Have the opportunity to manage the workload in your work area and perform daily testing required by the refinery, while working in a supportive environment.
- Be provided with on job training by an experienced employee this will include test methods, and coaching on daily tasks to ensure your area is operating efficiently.
- Manage workload and conduct laboratory testing per testing protocols and test methods.
- Perform equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and calibrations
- Provide excellent customer service by always presenting a professiona lattitude and representing IOL in a positive way comply with all safety initiatives and rules provide technica lsupport and expertise to our clients ensure that all client requests and expectations are met
- Participate, when requested, in lab and health & safety meetings and internal and external audits
- Be responsible for data entry, laboratory record management, control charting and to maintain analytical method performance logs to ensure quality results
- Identify and recommend improvements to processes and systems
- Work safely in a lab environment, following procedures & regulations
- Have the opportunity to collaborate in refinery initiatives, special projects, and equipment/method commissioning
- Participate in company networking opportunities including the Networking Advisory Program (NAP), which hosts regular informal networking events between early career hires and more experienced employees and the Women’s Interest Network (WIN), fostering professional growth, personal development and supporting advancement of women at all levels of the company, from trades to senior management
Skills and Qualifications
- 0-10 years of experience with analytical equipment, procedures, and lab techniques
- Chemical Laboratory Technologist diploma: A bachelor’s degree in chemistry is considered an asset.
- MSOffice (Access, Excel, Word, SAP, Outlook etc.) proficiency.
- Valid driver license.
- Great attention to detail with precision and accuracy
- Strong interpersonal, facilitative and organizational skills
- Effective management of multiple competing priorities
- Strong troubleshooting skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong reading comprehension and listening skills
- Strong multi-tasking, problem solving and time management skills
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision within an empowered team environment
- Able to adjust to rapidly shifting priorities
- Sound ability to assess risks related to your work environment
- Strong team player
- Knowledge of chemical lab techniques
- Previous laboratory experience in a refinery environment is preferred
- Must be willing to work weekends and evenings
- Familiar with quality standards such as ISO17025 and ISO9001
