Your Opportunity:

This position reports to the Home Care Manager, in Fort McMurray, Alberta. This position provides Home Care Services located within the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo and outlying communities. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) requires an ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment. The LPN’s skills in critical thinking, judgment and decision-making are important in knowing when to consult and collaborate. The LPN must be able to recognize the complexity of clients’ needs/acuity and adapt accordingly to meet their needs. The LPN’s ability to accurately assess client status and implement appropriate nursing interventions will have a significant impact on client outcomes. The LPN must be familiar with the range of health disciplines and health care resources. The LPN is accountable for his/her own practice, according to the standards defined by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta. The LPN practices to full scope. The LPN demonstrates competence in delivering safe, effective and efficient care for patients in the Inpatient Unit in accordance with all elements of the current job description for Licensed Practical Nurses. Is responsible and accountable for practice, according to the standards defined by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA) Standards of Practice and completes care within her/his scope of practice. Direct nursing care includes assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation for assigned patients and works in consultation with RN colleagues and others to meet the needs of more complex patients. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Fort McMurray Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $12,480. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum of 2-4 years’ nursing experience. Successful completion of a recognized Practical Nursing educational program (diploma or certificate in practical nursing). This job can be physically demanding, requiring frequent movement, walking, standing for long periods and the ability to carry up to 15-20 lbs. at times. Expertise in wound care, wound vac, continence, and ostomy care. Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively. Demonstrated ability to show initiative and work independently. Utilizes expert nursing knowledge, complex decision-making and critical thinking skills, collaborative approaches to care, evidence informed practice, and strong nursing competencies. Uses advanced knowledge, skills, and judgment to improve client care and manage complex and challenging situations. Demonstrated proficiency including but not limited to the Internet, Microsoft Office and Meditech. Evidence of excellent verbal and written communication skills, compassionate and caring attitude, strong commitment to client safety and quality improvement initiatives, holistic and advanced assessment skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience using Netcare. Seniors Health Experience.
