About The Opportunity
The Department of Medical Physics of Nova Scotia Health, Atlantic Canada’s largest academic health care organization, is recruiting an Electronics Engineering Technologist (EET) for the Cancer Care Program at the QEII Health Sciences Centre site in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The Electronics Engineering Technologist is a vital member of the cancer care team, joining the current compliment of three fulltime EETs.
The treatment facility in Halifax includes seven Varian linear accelerators, including a combination of TrueBeam and Ethos treatment platforms. Plans are in development to replace three units with state-of-the-art systems by June 2025. Treatment planning is done using Eclipse deployed through a thin client architecture, and Oncentra for HDR brachytherapy. CT, MRI and PET imaging and cyclotron facilities are on site.
Reporting to the Chief of Medical Physics, Electronics Engineering Technologists are primarily responsible for corrective and preventative maintenance to the linear accelerators, CT scanners and associated electrical equipment and computers. Electronics Engineering Technologists troubleshoot complex and often intermittent system problems in conjunction with equipment and system manufacturers. They must demonstrate proficiency in electronics, vacuum technology, high voltage, water cooling, pneumatic systems, computer control and imaging technologies used in the equipment they service. They must possess a background in IT, with working knowledge of computer hardware and software, as well as network and server maintenance. They must enjoy dynamic working environment, collaborating with medical physicists, medical physics residents, graduate student researchers and radiation therapists. The successful candidate will receive rigorous training in-house as well as courses provided by our technology vendor(s).

About You
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
- Grade 12 Diploma
- Graduate of a post-secondary 2-year Electronics Engineering program, (CET) Certified Electronic Technologist, plus two years relevant experience
- Relevant experience in X-ray imaging, high voltage, RF systems and IT technologies are highly desirable
- Excellent knowledge of electronics and computers
- Demonstrated troubleshooting skills
- Proficiency in the assembly of electronics equipment from drawings to finished assembly
- Ability to work independently
- Working knowledge of radiation safety and occupational health and safety legislation
- Respectful interpersonal and communication skills
- Sound decision-making skills and the ability to set and follow priorities
- Good geometrical spatial and color perception
- Electrical circuit design skills
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
Hours
- Permanent full-time position; 75 hours biweekly
