Duties:

  1. Provides culturally appropriate information, support and referral services to Indigenous victims of crime and their families, including home visits as required.
  2. Assists with the development and delivery of programs and initiatives to meet the needs of Indigenous victims of crime, their families, and offenders.
  3. Assists with the development and delivery of public education and awareness programs related to crime prevention strategies targeting Indigenous people.
  4. Participates in activities, and meets with Indigenous groups and community agencies in Saskatoon, to provide liaison and encourage communication between these groups and agencies and the Police Service.
  5. Assists with the identification, recruitment and training of Indigenous volunteer support workers.
  6. Consults with police officers and provides advice and assistance with cases involving Indigenous people.
  7. Acts as liaison with school resource officers and school staff regarding police-related matters. Serves on community committees and boards as required.
  8. Works with agencies and Indigenous families in a restorative justice format, including non-criminal cases.
  9. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from a recognized two-year, post-secondary program in social sciences or a related field.
  • Three years’ social service experience in the Indigenous community addressing related issues. 
  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
  • Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.
  • Considerable knowledge of urban Indigenous culture.
  • Knowledge of victim issues.
  • Knowledge of community resource agencies.
  • Knowledge of the criminal justice system.
  • Knowledge of the restorative justice process. 
  • Knowledge of an Indigenous language is an asset.
  • Ability to pass the Saskatoon Police Service security clearance process.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Effective interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

Hours of Work:

Shift work and weekend work may be involved.

Salary:

$61,748.88 to $68,077.68 per annum (2022 rates)
