To be eligible for the SECURE Summer Student Program, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in a post-secondary institution and available from May to August.
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada by way of Canadian Citizenship, Permanent Residency, or a valid work permit.
  • If you are selected for a role considered safety-sensitive, you will be required to successfully complete a Medical and/or Alcohol and drug test.

Students are also required to submit a cover letter and recent transcripts. The cover letter will address the following questions:

  • Why do you want to work for SECURE?
  • How does this position fit in with your current or long-term career goals?

Your Opportunity at SECURE Energy

As our Summer Student – Metals Operations you will be responsible for assisting the operations team in enhancing process efficiency, supporting daily operational tasks, and managing data analysis related to production and service workflows. This role offers practical experience in operations management and contributes to optimizing productivity across the organization. There will be travel involved.

This role is based out of the Saskatoon Metals Recycling Facility on a full-time, Monday to Friday schedule.

The Team

The Metals Operations team at SECURE Energy is dedicated to improving process efficiency and driving productivity within the Metals Recycling division. This team works collaboratively to analyze workflows, implement process improvements, and optimize resource planning to enhance overall operations.

A Day in The Life

The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Analyze operational workflows and assist in identifying bottlenecks or inefficiencies that can be improved through process modifications.
  • Track and analyze operational metrics to evaluate performance and assist in preparing reports that support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with resource planning and scheduling, ensuring effective allocation of personnel and materials to meet production needs.
  • Support SOP development and updates, ensuring that all procedures are current, accessible, and used consistently across departments.
  • Collaborate with the operations team to implement process improvements and monitor the outcomes, contributing ideas and insights along the way.

Skills, Experience, & Qualifications

  • Actively enrolled in a post-secondary program in Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related field.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze workflow data and operational metrics to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Attention to Detail: High degree of accuracy in tracking processes, updating documentation, and recording data.
  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in Excel; experience with process mapping tools or operations software is an advantage.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills to work effectively with team members and document processes.
  • Organizational Skills: Good time management and organizational skills to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Problem-Solving Abilities: A proactive, solution-oriented approach to challenges in a fast-paced environment.
