About the Organization The Ocean Tracking Network (OTN, http://oceantrackingnetwork.org/) is an international marine and freshwater monitoring platform that focuses on tracking the movements of aquatic animals in the context of a changing. Established in 2008, OTN is one of 19 National Research Facilities supported by the Major Science Initiatives (MSI) funding program of the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI)
Job Summary Reporting to the Senior Operations Manager, the Project Manager plays a key role in supporting organizational development and ensuring best practices in management and governance are followed. The Project Manager works closely with the Senior Operations Manager and Project Management team to manage OTN’s institutional and research awards, track progress against OTN’s strategic plan, liaise with funding agencies and institutional contacts, and support new initiatives to advance OTN’s mandate
Key Responsibilities
Note This position is expected to work from OTN’s office on Dalhousie’s Halifax campus. Hybrid work arrangement is available for the right candidate. Occasional travel and evening and weekend work may be required

Key Responsibilities
- Manage funded projects through all stages of their lifecycle, including financial management, evaluation and reporting, project meetings, outreach and engagement, and recruitment of highly qualified personnel.
- Lead the coordination of new research funding proposals, including evaluating opportunities against OTN’s strategic plan and identifying opportunities for collaboration across teams and with network partners.
- Together with the Senior Operations Manager, track progress towards OTN’s strategic plan and complementary strategies, and develop and carry out new initiatives to meet OTN’s strategic goals and objectives.
- In conjunction with other project management staff, lead and/or support internal and/or organizational projects, including OTN’s annual symposium.
- Support organizational management activities, including carrying out directives from OTN’s advisory bodies and providing contract support for OTN’s equipment loaner program, glider program, and research contracts as required.

Required Qualifications
- Graduate degree in environmental management, biology, or other related field with a minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in project management, grant management, research, and/or organizational governance.
- Strong understanding of grant management and reporting, granting agencies, and navigating the requirements of diverse national and international grant applications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience drafting and editing written communication for a wide variety of audiences and purposes, including grant applications, reports to funders and governance bodies, and pubic-facing outputs.
- Demonstrated project management experience throughout the full project lifecycle. Highly adaptive and able to respond to changing needs or priorities.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including diplomacy, teamwork, and negotiation. Demonstrated experience working with a variety of partners, including Indigenous and local groups.
- Financial management experience including budget development, forecasting, reporting and decision-making.
Assets
- Formal project management training (i.e., PMP designation) a strong asset.
- Experience working with academics and university administrators a strong asset.
- Experience working with board governed organizations.
- Experience working with collaborative digital platforms and project management software (i.e., Asana, Slack, Office365). Able to identify ways to harness platforms to improve project workflows and productivity.
- Experience supervising staff.
