The Data/Operations Analyst position supports research, analytics and evidence-based decision-making for the Community Standards and Neighbourhoods Branch. Some examples of how your work will impact Edmontonians are: evaluating enforcement programs, analyzing data to inform the effective deployment of City enforcement officers, and supporting regular operational reporting.

The Branch works directly with Edmontonians and businesses to promote clean, safe, connected and livable urban spaces.

What will you do?

  • Provide direct analytical support to the Community Standards and Neighbourhoods Branch
  • Develop, collect, analyze, evaluate and disseminate complex data, performance measures, and key performance indicators
  • Develop effective reports to assist senior and operational leadership in the deployment of resources and service improvements
  • Highlight insights from data analysis and report them in a way that is accessible
  • Develop effective data collection and report mechanisms, including trend analysis, chronic offender identification, heat mapping, causation analysis, risk terrain modelling, dashboards, surveys, etc.
  • Collaborate to identify and develop process and procedure improvements, conduct gap analysis and provide recommendations
  • Develop project evaluation tools and strategies
  • Conduct research and environmental scans to identify opportunities and trends
  • Assist in the preparation and drafting of reports, presentations, and other written materials


Qualifications:

  • University graduation in Statistics, Business, Commerce, Criminology, Economics or other related discipline
  • Minimum 2 years related experience working in data analysis, research, geographic information systems, evaluation, business analysis and/or project management. Those who do not meet this requirement may be considered at the developmental level


Assets:

  • Knowledge of risk terrain modelling, criminal/intelligence analysis and/or crime/GIS mapping
  • Knowledge of GBA+ principles and application, data disaggregation and ethical data standards


Skills required for success:

  • Proficiency with data/statistical analysis tools and dashboards such as Tableau, Looker Studio, ArcGIS, SPSS, Excel, etc.
  • Excellent analytical ability, data interpretation and problem-solving skills
  • Expertise in data analysis, statistical methodologies, evaluation techniques and integrating qualitative and quantitative research methods
  • Ability to communicate effectively to diverse audiences
  • Ability to synthesize complex data into cohesive and relevant information for decision-making
  • Exemplary writing, interpersonal, relationship-building, organization and time management skills

Conditions of Employment:

  • Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton

  • The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday

Salary: $38.908 - 48.609 Hourly; $81,239.90 - $101,495.59 Annually

  • Opportunity Concept/Developmental level: $32.423 - $37.000 Hourly; $67,699.22 - $77,256.00 Annually
