About The Opportunity

The Physiotherapist reports to the Program Manager the Physiotherapist working in outpatient physiotherapy assesses, diagnoses and treats patients in a tertiary care setting who present with actual or potential impairment, pain, functional limitations or disabilities. Physiotherapy assessment involves obtaining a detailed medical history, performing specific and standardized tests and evaluation procedures to determine a physical diagnosis. Holistic treatment programs are developed based on post-surgical protocols, using exercises, education, and manual, mechanical, electrical and hydrotherapy techniques to assist the patient in regaining and/or maintaining an optimal level of function. The physiotherapist educates and communicates with other health disciplines, the general public, family members and caregivers with regard to health promotion, physiotherapy treatment and patient management. The physiotherapist provides supervision and evaluation of physiotherapy students and supervision of physiotherapy assistants and aides. The physiotherapist reports to a Program Manager and as a member of a clinical team, the physiotherapist collaborates with colleagues to determine team goals and objectives, participates in the evaluation of team effectiveness, and solves problems and shares responsibilities. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills are required.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Physiotherapy from an accredited university
  • Membership with the Nova Scotia College or Physiotherapists (Provincial licensing body)
  • Annual Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation certification (BCLS)
  • Thorough knowledge of Physiotherapy practice, with an interest in program development and evaluation skills
  • Previous experience in an outpatient setting considered an asset
  • Previous experience in orthopedics, long term pain and/or working with individuals with long term health conditions considered an asset
  • Experience in motivational interviewing and facilitating health behaviour change is an asset
  • Effective teaching and patient education skills
  • Demonstrated accountability
  • Effective promotion of patient self-management skills
  • Strong client focus and ability to build solid client/practitioner relationships
  • Demonstrated collaboration and teamwork skills
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and innovation
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities
  • Demonstrated planning, organization and time management skills
  • Commitment to promoting a culture that supports safety, ethical practices and organizational health
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours

  • Long assignment, Full-time position; 75 hours bi-weekly
  • Approximately an 18-month assignment

Compensation And Benefits

$33.97 - $42.89 Hourly

Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
