Building Automation Systems Designer

The Cahill Group

Date: 1 week ago
City: Dartmouth, NS
Contract type: Full time

Cahill Technical Services, a division of The Cahill Group, is seeking two skilled Building Automation Systems (BAS) Designers to join our team—one based in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, and the other in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador.

In this role, you will be instrumental in designing and preparing building automation systems for field installations and start-ups, ensuring high-quality support for key projects. Your responsibilities will include reviewing project plans and specifications to maintain accuracy and alignment with project standards.

As a BAS Designer, you’ll collaborate closely with contractors, clients, and other stakeholders to integrate systems and resolve technical challenges effectively. Ideal candidates will bring strong communication skills, meticulous attention to detail, and a high degree of proficiency in preparing material orders and managing change orders as needed. Cahill is a dynamic and collaborative workplace where innovation is valued, and ideas are encouraged. You’ll gain hands-on experience in building automation, working alongside some of the industry’s best professionals

What You’ll Do:

  • Use AutoCAD and Bluebeam to develop detailed building automation system designs, preparing them for seamless field installation.
  • Participate in project turnover meetings, review design plans, and provide essential technical support to bridge design and installation phases.
  • Work closely with installation teams and project managers to ensure smooth integration and successful delivery of control packages. Perform on-site troubleshooting and issue resolution as required.
  • Build strong relationships with clients, contractors, and engineers. Lead discussions with mechanical contractors to ensure effective integration of controls with mechanical systems.
  • Respond to technical inquiries from project managers and the installation team, and troubleshoot mechanical and control systems with on-site support when necessary.
  • Maintain professional relationships with general contractors, clients, and consulting engineers, offering support to resolve issues and enhance collaboration.
  • Coordinate with contractors and subcontractors to achieve cohesive system integration across projects.
  • Adhere to project schedules, ensuring timely delivery of control packages aligned with project timelines.
  • Attend project meetings to address mechanical concerns and provide updates to the project manager.
  • Participate in project debriefs upon completion to evaluate results and identify areas for improvement.

What We’re Looking For:

  • A Mechanical Engineering Technologist Diploma (or equivalent).
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office.
  • A solid understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, and the ability to work efficiently with design software.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills to engage with both the project team and clients.

This role offers the opportunity to advance your expertise in building automation systems while working on innovative projects in a collaborative and forward-thinking environment. If you’re passionate about creating impactful solutions and thrive in a team setting, we’d love to hear from you! This is a full-time position, working hours from Monday to Friday.

We believe that a diverse and inclusive culture creates a work environment that is supportive, engaging and rewarding. We welcome, recognize, and celebrate diverse backgrounds, cultures, demographics, perspectives, and experiences within our team. Being you at The Cahill Group is what makes us stronger and enables innovation and creativity in meeting tomorrow’s challenges. We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer actively seeking to recruit a diverse and talented workforce. If you require any accommodation in the recruitment process, please let us know.
