RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC

The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Principal Investigators, the incumbent will support the analysis of administrative datasets, data from population-based surveys such as the Demographic Health Survey and data from registries from various countries for the collaborative research project focused on the O’Neill-Lancet Commission on Racism, Structural Discrimination and Global Health’s second mandate, i.e., identifying best practices and actionable anti-racist strategies.

General Duties

In this position, the incumbent, in collaboration with the Project Manager, Principal Investigators and in-country research partners will:

  • Implement and execute quantitative research methods,
  • Conduct data analysis and prepare draft reports and summaries for research papers, including providing detailed information on data analysis findings to stakeholders,
  • Analyze and write program scripts to extract, reformat and analyze data,
  • Format research results to be presentable and easily comprehensible,
  • Track, monitor and document research activities, maintaining project records and informing stakeholders of project progress.

Education / Experience

Education: Master's Degree

Field of Study: Epidemiology or Biostatistics

Experience

  • Experience in health system research,
  • Experience in qualitative research.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of core principles related to health equity and social justice in global health,
  • Knowledge of research principles and practices,
  • Experience in applying strong analytical research skills using administrative health system and population-based data,
  • Experience in study design, research and analysis plans and conducting statistical and machine learning analysis according to project plans,
  • Experience in writing reproducible code for data cleaning and data management, to conduct exploratory, statistical and machine learning analysis of data to assess feasibility of new research projects and perform descriptive and inferential analysis,
  • Experience conducting systematic and scoping reviews,
  • Ability to work within a diverse team, including communicating with community partners and participants,
  • Ability to engage in self-reflexivity and critical reflection on intersecting systems of oppression,
  • Excellent English, spoken and written (excellent knowledge of Spanish, as well as other languages, are an asset),
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills,
  • Ability to work independently or within teams with minimum supervision,
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook or equivalent software and data collection software (e.g Nvivo, R, Sas).

Additional information

Status: Temporary, part time (10 hours/week)

Pay Scale: $26.65 to $49.50/hour. Commensurate with education and experience

Work Shift: Variable schedule

Work Site: Remote
