Hours = 40 hours/week
Salary = $55,000-$70,000 (commensurate with experience and qualifications)
Direct Supervisor = Chair, Board of Directors
Job Description
The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors. With guidance from the Board of Directors, its committees, and the organization's financial and legal advisors, the Executive Director has overall business and administrative accountability for the operation of Chrysalis House, including resident admissions and dismissals to and from the program and all matters relating to the hiring and supervision of staff and volunteers. From time to time as required, the Executive Director is responsible for direct, one-on-one supervision of residents. In conjunction with the Board of Directors, the Executive Director plays a key role in the development of project objectives/tactics and the writing and submission of fund and grant applications. The Executive Director is responsible for liaising with community organizations, and building partnerships that will support the overall maintenance and development of Youth in Transition and Chrysalis House.
Qualifications
Required
One year of experience working with out-of-home youth and/or youth with complex needs
University degree in a human service field (education, social work, sociology) or equivalent mix of education and/or experience)
Fundraising experience
Supervisory and budgeting experience
Must have no history of criminal conviction
Ability to maintain composure and stamina in intense physical and emotional environment over extended periods of time
Excellent communication and supervisory skills
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work both independently and as a member of a team
Proficiency with electronic word processing, data management, communication, and presentations
Current Standard First Aid and Level 'C' CPR certification
Suicide prevention training
Preferred
Familiarity with existing community resources and programs
Familiarity with experiences of people living in shelters
Maintain ing or experience working with youth with mental illness and addictions
Conflict resolution training, and/or other relevant training and certification
Primary Duties
Conduct day to day administrative tasks associated with the functioning of YIT and CH, including, but not limited to: staff scheduling, payroll, arranging for house maintenance and repairs
Develop, in cooperation with BOD, the operational budget for YIT and CH
Ensure operation of CH within budget as passed by the BOD
Promote mandate and objectives of YIT and CH to government, academic, private sector, and other community stakeholders
Represent YIT at inter-agency and community meetings/events
Maintain knowledge of federal, provincial, and local policies and services for at-risk/homeless youth
Guide development of curriculum that is attentive to the recreational, educational, physical, social, and spiritual development of residents
Seek out development opportunities for residents including employment opportunities, training programs, workshops, etc.
Handle grievances/crisis calls from social service agencies, parents, law enforcement, medical, neighborhood, and other groups, as applicable
Present monthly status report to BOD
Work with BOD to create long-term development strategies regarding staffing, fund development, and other matters of importance to the maintenance and development of YIT and CH
Assist with the development and monitoring of all residents' case plans and programs
Liaise with community stakeholders on residents' case plans as required by provincial and/or legal obligations (e.g., with schools, government agencies, other service providers)
Conduct hiring & personnel reviews in consultation with PC
Create team-focused environment by engaging staff members in all aspects of maintenance and development of YIT and CH
Recruit and train volunteers (including members of the BOD)
Guide the development/launch of new and current initiatives
Manage all financial aspects pertaining to Youth in Transition
Liaise with media to facilitate positive media relations where possible
Adhere to, and ensure adherence to, YIT by-laws, policies, and procedures
